Dreambeliever

Will he believe again?

It's been 5 years since I was this excited going into a season.

Please oh please boys don't let me down this Sunday.

I'm absolutely itching for the new season with real hope.

And I will do my upmost to not ruin this season's Arsenal match thread.

**Facepalm alert**

I'm always excited about a new season and no matter what, I always harbour hopes of a title challenge. I'm cautiously optimistic this time though and I'm willing Roy to do well for us, cos he's such a nice bloke.

I'm excited, the same way I feel at the start of every season.

I'm also a bit nervous about this one. Whoevere said it earlier was correct, but the first few weeks of the season will set the tempo of the whole season. We'll either be off to a flyer or our backs will be up against the wall from the off.

It could go either way at this stage.

I'm shitting it, I don't envisage a good season but as has been said we will find out after our first 2 games.

Why do people keep going on about the first two games defining our season? They're two of the biggest games we'll play all season, so does this mean if we get less than 3/4 points from the two games everyone will be hysterical and we'll be written off, with 36 games to spare?

Surprised Mark? Some have written us off even before a ball has been kicked.

I believe we can beat Arsenal on Sunday. We need the team to gel quickly and get some results on the board so that we get some momentum.

I'd be happy to say, lets see where we are by Xmas before we even consider to formulate how our season my pan out. Win the league? Realistically, no. But if we prioritise the league over Europa and over cups then we may find ourselves in a pleasant league position.

I don't want us to treat the Europa with disdain, just use it to blood and experience some younger talent with some experienced players. We have enough quality to beat most of the teams in that competition. But compared to the league it should be 2nd priority, by some distance.

Excited? Not yet, although I do have a semi-lob on.

I fancy us to give Arsenal a game on Sunday, I'm a bit more concerned about the City game though.

*Sheik, nope not surprised at all, should know better really by now! I can see it now, anything less than at least one win and Roy will be for the gallows and all our new signings will be resounding failures.

That's a more understandable view point than someone called "Dreambeliever" saying he's not been as excited as this going into a season for five years, when we have been a selling club for the past two years due to our financial state.

At any rate, I'm just happy for football. I didn't get into this shit to learn about how debt is financed.

I was more excited in 2007 though, was waiting for Torres' debut.

I wasn't; I actually thought he wouldnt adapt to English football..

It was the Chelsea goal thatc hanged my mind.

Ha! I was one of the no-nothings who thought Torres was over rated too. Until he scored that goal, I did the quickest about turn in history on him!

Ha nah just nobody likes a negative bastard especially if he turns out to be right.

As Brendan will find out if we have as poor a season as he thinks.

How anyone can not be very happy after getting shot of Rafa, not losing Gerrard or Torres or Reina and getting Joe Cole, well then they just understand football nowadays.

Things could be better but Christ they could be so much worse.

I was very excited after Istanbul. But since then have always felt like Rafa could never get us there.

Always hard to get excited for 2nd best.

Is this the Scum's supporters club? ;D

So you're more excited this season, where the most optimistic of us are hoping for fourth place at best. Than two seasons ago, where fourth place was all but expected and there was even a small chance of a league title, that nearly panned out?

Oh come off it Mark, you know that our success of failrure this season is strongly linked to player confidence.

We never recovered from some bad results at the start of last season.

It's not necessarilly about the result, but if we're poor against Arsenal & City then pressure will start to build from all angle very quickly.

I'm not saying we'll not get decent reults, I'm just saying it's important that we show thatwe will compete very quickly this year.

A selling club?

We sold Alonso because Rafa fucked him over, we're selling Masher because his wife is a pain in the arse. We're trying to get rid of the dross and we've kept hold of our three best players in Gerrard, Torres and Reina.

Yeah, that's a selling club right there. I guess that makes United one too.

That might all be true, but it's different management this time, and one that hopefully won't make bizarre decisions that will see moments like the one at Birmingham last season. Our failure last season was down to poor signings, injury and baffling decisions by the manager. We lost a few games because of that, at least this time I'll hope that if we do lose, it won't be through trying to get a draw or taking off our best striker when getting beat.

What? We spent £40m last season on Johnson and Aquilani. Whatever the semantics over balancing the books, we still spent money! What did we spend the season before?

People have short memories, we have a season of being in a financial state and we're suddenly a selling club who doesn't buy anyone. Get real.

Had forgotten Johnson was last season alright. This seasons spending has been awful, although it was to be expected.

Re: Dreambeliever. How can you say this is the most excited in five years, when you were the most blindly optimistic poster on this forum up until 2008, before you did a complete u-turn?
