Actually I kind of agree with Dreambeliever. (Yes, I know.)
I'm not excited because I think we're going to win the league. But I'm excited about the FOOTBALL in a way I haven't been for a while.
Partly, I think the lack of expectation is a help rather than a hindrance. No one's tipping us for the title this season, quite rightly. But with reduced expectation comes added freedom.
We're out of Rafa's tactical straitjacket. And Roy may ultimately prove himself just as conservative and negative, but at this stage I'm still hopeful that he won't.
Perhaps most of all, I'm extremely fearful about the club's future. It's not implausible that this could be our last season watching players with the quality of Torres, Gerrard and Cole. Next season we might be in administration and be forced to field a team of youngsters. So that precariousness makes me appreciate what we have now a bit more than I have done recently.
I'll miss the Champions League, and it's a bit sad beginning a season without any realistic hope of winning the league. But I'm so sick of reading about ownership and leveraged buyouts and all that shit that I'm really looking forward to watching Liverpool Football Club play football this season.
