Mignolet..

Simon Mignolet has saved a penalty in the #BPL for the first time in 11 tries dating back to September 2010.
First Penalty saved by one of our keepers at Anfield since..............Sander Westervalde in 1999. With 8 going in, inbetween.

Apparently a special directive has been sent out to all refs now saying if a keeper makes the crossbar shake like Mignolet and Szcznesy did the kick has to be re-taken.

I like him. I like his shovel face.
If you dont go for crosses in the 6 yard box you are damned, if you do you are damned.
Hes going to be fine.

He clocked in 15 points in the fantasy football too. BOSS.

I had De Gea though. Idiot.

I think most of us, whether we loved Reina or were happy to see him go, expected Mignolet to be much more nervous on the ball and a shitter distributer of the ball.
And we were right on that point.

But his flapping with these crosses is doing my head in. That was the one big aspect I thought he might be much better at than Pepe. I sincerely hope it's just the combination of nerves and a 6 foot 7 freak going after the ball with him.

On a side note, Sturridge can be a frustrating fucker with his decision making, but fuck me, is he a striker! Love him.
And Coutinho needs to be put on a 5 year contract with a 150m fucking buyout clause.
Calm down, Mignolet will be great for us. It was his home debut and he improved as the game went on. He made crucial saves and stopped a penalty. What more can you ask for?

Grade A bullshit if so. Whats the need?

I dunno. Thinking about it logically if the bar is moving that could be off putting, & taken to extremes, if the bar was still moving & the ball hit it then it could effect which way it goes. Although I know that's an extreme scenario.

Helped us to another 3 points today. That's about 4 he's garnered thus far. Doesn't have Pepe's touch on the deck, but he has a bit more agility. Given how "comfortable" Pepe was here (his words) I'm glad for now we have a keeper who has to earn our appreciation.

That left-handed save from Benteke was almost as big and as difficult as saving the penalty. In fact I would say, it was more difficult because Ming knew which way Waters is going to shoot - not so with Benteke. So far Mignolet is perfectly justifying Brendan's decision to spend money on a new goalkeeper.

I was sure that Toure got a crucial little nick on Benteke's shot.
Either way his reactions are excellent.
The distribution will come when he has a better understanding of his team mates.

Mignolet has proven his worth and is a match winner. Its refreshing and a confidence boost for the team that we have a keeper that wins us games when we need it.

the facts don't lie - two clean sheets, pen save and other great stops. His distribution and crossing ability needs to improve though.

The reaction to the Sturridge goal

I love Pepe but I can't help but feel that he would've let that Benteke shot through at the end.

He's made every save he's needed too including some pivotal ones at important moments.

Sign of a top keeper.

I don't really give a damn that he's not great with the ball at his feet as long as he stops it going in the net

He's so far shown he's an upgrade on Reina in terms of shot stopping. Still needs to improve as a footballer in general, as the defenders look nowhere near as comfortable passing the ball back to him as they were with Reina, and often end up choosing the more difficult riskier option instead.

To be fair to him though, yesterday the only mess up was Agger's horrific back pass drilled at him. I doubt many keepers in the world would have comfortably dealt with that.

The main worry for me is crosses. He majorly flapped at one yesterday. He needs to strengthen up a bit.
