only one of our players that shows consistent great movement within the opposition box, and he's got a proper jazzy footballers name

Maxi has this brilliant habit of finding himself in the right place at the right time. I don't want to take anything from Carroll after his performance tonight, but I don't know how many times a ball has been played into the box this season, and Carroll is nowhere in sight. Maxi just seems to do it with ease.

maxi does have brilliant movement and he definately makes being the right place look easy but to be fair to carroll he does make space for others. carroll is a defender magnet and it's up to others to make use of the space. the stat that shows we score more goals when he (carroll) is on the pitch doesn't surprise me one bit.

Love Maxi. Him and the Portuguese cunt could always lose defenders in the penalty area, yet still be in the danger areas.
I'll be livid if he's dropped for the next game (which is the norm) after his two goals.

Meirless lost people in the box? He scored 5 goals last season, of which most were on the edge or outside the box ...

Maxi is great, even though some feel he's 'horribly overrated'

I absolutely love his movement, it's like he says 'there is going to be a fuck up over there so I'll stand here', obviously if the ball doesn't come he'll look stupid but more often than not it lands at his feet for a tap in. that's not luck, that's a skill.

How this guy is a "squad" player is beyond me. We need goals...He scores them...play him.

Though for whatever reason he will be dropped at the weekend.

Two chances = two goals. Makes runs that Downing wouldn't dream of doing. Links up well with Suarez and did the same last night with Carroll. Has got to play on Saturday.

As I said in the other thread, I'd be very interested to learn why he's not being playing.

If it's down to attitude issues, fitness or something like that, it'd be quite reassuring (in a way).

So much is said of Kenny's man management skills but the treatment of Maxi has been nothing short of disgraceful. His performance and goals last night showed us exactly what we are missing.

I really hope that he gets a full run like he did last season where he couldn't stop scoring goals. We need that right now.

Ugh... "mistreatment". I hate that shit. Yeah, it can look like that, but how anyone can make that statement with the limited info we have is beyond me.

Like I said in the match thread, why not speculate that Kenny is playing Maxi exactly often enough, and in the right games, with the right instructions, to ensure he scores loads?

It's just as speculative as 'mistreatment'.

I like Maxi, but let's not pretend that he hasn't had a run of games in the past and been ineffectual.

Kenny hasn't backed him while Henderson who has been equally piss poor with no goal return or threat to speak of continually gets game time ahead of more deserving players.

Maxi's exclusion is certainly an enigma, borderline disgraceful to be honest but I guess Kenny knows best.

one thing is for sure, Downing on his preferred foot would have hit row Z with that second goal, great calm finish from a right footer.

Some midfielders just have brilliant finishing capability, I think of Barnes, Platt and Gazza from my day who were aces in front of goal, better than some strikers.

Same. Kenny said earlier in the season (after another one of his goal-scoring cameos) what a great professional he is, and how lucky we are to have him (or words to that effect). For a team so bereft of goals, it really is baffling how a midfielder with a 1 in 4 career goal-scoring record is so frequently overlooked.

End results, then yes, sure. But watch some of the games the cunt played in, where we scored, or nearly scored, and he's always there between the defense, behind them or wherever else the danger area was for the opposition, or where a rebound might occur. He had incredible movement, as does our Maxi.
The problem we've got with some of the average players we bought is not necessarily to do with their skill set or athleticism.. They're just not very intelligent players. We're screwed when it comes to them.
Boggles the mind considering how Kenny used to play, plus some of the genius players that played under him in the late 80s.
