I'd agree with glock, Souness and didi were better midfielders than mascherano. And yes I know you'll harp on about tackling etc.

You probably should re-read what JJ original wrote & then re-emphasised in his reply then.

I'll give you a hint -"purely & simply in terms of ball winning".

Sorry Dogboy, but you've made yourself look like an utter bell here. No-one has said Masher is a better midfielder than Souness or Didi.

Souness was the best all-round footballer of the three. Didi wasn't on his level but was probably better than Mascher as an all-rounder (and the best con-man of the three of them). But purely and simply as a ball-winner, which is what I specifically referred to, I'd take Mascher over either. And probably unlike you, I saw all three live.

Jog on.
What do you mean by con-man?

I mean the "Didi crumple", his great ability to make a ref think he'd been fouled when he hadn't. Most of the real masters of that have been strikers - Inzaghi sneaks to mind. Didi stopped at least as many opposition attacking moves that way as he did through winning the ball.

Ah right. I thought you were implying that he conned people into thinking he was a good footballer!

Yes yes im 12 and just starting to watch Liverpool play...

Bloody hell!

Souness and Didi's tackling rate are probably higher than Mascher and to top that with excellent all round play makes them a complete Defensive Midfielder unlike Mascher who can ONLY fucking tackle.

I dont give a flying fuck whether you think otherwise.

In football its not about tackles alone, its more than that.

But knowing you and your claim watching bullshit all these years does not surprise me at all.

Ball winning wise - Souness and Hamann wins. So yeah Mascher are well below them in that particular skill.

Even the original Glock wasn't this much of a bellend was he?

EDIT: On second thoughts......

We need more of a didi than a mascher .

I think didi was the better player of the two tbh.

Despite never buying into the 'mascher can't pass' myth, the kaiser had a much better all round game imo.

His style was very different to mascheranos despite them doing similar things. He was less combative & yet opposition players would afford him space almost out of deference to his ability to hit the ball, in a similar way to the way many players still stand off stevie despite him being in possession yards from our goal with no obvious pass.

Yep - I agree with you here. He did have a better all round game. To think he had to contend with being a weird blinky, 20 cigs a day, gambling addict as well. Love the kaiser!

Souness was not a defensive midfielder, he was the complete midfielder who spent as much time in the opposition half as he did in his own. He was lethal in the tackle so when he did defend he was awesome but he could NEVER be referred to as a defensive midfielder.

Just like Gerrard….Gerrard played as DM hundreds of games before, so yeah whatever it is Mascher is still inferior compare to Souness and Didi. So please sit down. We're done.

Normally I'd pity such a tool but you ruin so many decent threads with your overwhelming stupidity that I urge you to please fuck off; only this time make it permanent.....Good lad.

toughie, but I would pick mascher. both were very good at shielding and possession, but mascher gave you that 'edge' when things were going tough and you needed some ooomph.

As I've been saying for months; we don't need another defensive midfielder - and especially not one who's as poor in possession as Mascherano. I've explained why we don't need one countless times, in excruciating (yet brilliant) detail.

Mark, or any other annoying fucker, is more than entitled to argue why we do. I'd fucking love to hear it.

Why do you have to troll Ryan?

I do not agree, it depends on whether we are going to rely on being a counter attacking team willing to let the opponents have the ball or not.

Mascherano is a top quality midfielder and would walk back into our team, even now past his peak even though he left under a cloud but then at the time he was owned by two cowboys and managed by a spaz...

His simple passing and control were good, his tenacity and aggresion were superb... he is a cracking player IMO and considerably better than what we have. I would certainly have him back.

We wont sign him and we should be looking for a younger player but that's not to say I don't wish we still had him.
