No holding midfielder and Maxi in the team.

Away to United.

Hmm
Our holding midfielders consist of, to coin a phrase, Cunt 1 and Cunt 2. For the purpose of this game, Meireles and Gerrard would be our holding midfielders. Both can tackle, and more importantly, both can play football. Besides, they'd be spending most of their time defending anyway. We're away from home and our manager is Roy Hodgson.

And as far as Maxi goes, you proposed swapping him for Babel, who offers absolutely fuck all in terms of cover. I don't think it's that far-fetched, to be honest. (As a concept, I mean. Obviously there's no chance Roy would pick it.)

Jovanovic is a blunt weapon, and I'd prefer Agger to Skrtel, but otherwise I agree that's probably the best team we can put out.
Yes but his pace can create plenty of opportunity. Great acceleration, something good is going to come of it..
I'm SO not convinced by Jovanovic. I think he might score 4-5 goals this season, with maybe a similar number of assists. That's not enough for an attacking midfielder. Look how many Yossi got us, even though he was on the bench half the time.

He's also got great upper body strength and can shrug off tackles even when travelling at speed. His final ball/shot has been off beam so far, but it's way too early to write him off as some seem ready to do. I think he could cause the Mancs problems and I'd play him for sure.

I've changed my mind. Having given it some thought, I reckon he'll score two PL goals this season. Probably in the same match.

It could be Kenny Dalglish and we'd still get tonked.
Yes because Utd smashed Fulham and Everton this season.

And we don't have J Cole coming in or Raul replacing Lucas.

It will be a tight game that we are capable of winning.

Least not forget Torres scores at OT for fun.
I'm beginning to think that you just alternate between positive and negative stances each season. It's like you just pick one and run with it, irrespective of what's happening on the pitch. For the record, I much prefer this one.
My mood and thoughts on the team are dirctly related the boss and his squad.

I think for the EPL we have a better manager that we did and a better set of players too to last season.

We were awful last year, had injuries, players off form and still could have got fourth in the last few weeks.

This season I think we will get fourth easily so definate reasons to be positive.

Results look poor so far but only if your not paying attention to the rest.

Once we get everyone of the first 11 on the pitch together the results will come and everyone will be happy again. Then I'll be norm.

I don't understand how he can turn from so absurdly negative to so absurdly positive, with almost NOTHING to base it on.
I'll tell you what, let's have this chat again in 4 weeks. I think everyone will be alot more positive then.

I''ve got a lot to base my positivity on.

J Cole
Raul
A maanger who doesn't do zonal marking
A manager who is willing to give squad players and youth a chance.
A manager who isn;t a stubborn idiot.
A manager who doesn't see Lucas as a must starter every week.
A left back better than what we had last season.
A better first 11 than last season.
Great youth prospects.
Babel being told he will get a proper chance.

After sunday we have a decent set of fixtures to get on track.
Even with our start a win on Sunday puts us ahead of Utd.

Don't forget Juan!

It's also worth mentioning that, under Roy, Lucas is the only player to have featured in every game so far this season.

And zonal or man-to-man marking makes very little difference if you don't have anyone who can head the ball. We still look very shaky on set pieces this season.

Some positives there.

However Roy seems very stubborn even if he isnt an idiot. His subs and gameplans have been lame so far.
Not to many youngsters have been given the chance so far.
Lucas has so far been a starter week in and week out. I assume or prey or hope or whatever that this is co-insidentaly, but he has used him so far. And while Mascher and Aquaman has left the port allready we are stuck with the numb.
We dont know how our left back will look this season. A few games thiis season it has looked shaky. Konchesky might turn out good, but no conclsuions yet.
Babel have been told he will be given a proper chance. However if he doesnt start thursday I will say he is not given that chance.

I think I'd rather have Gerrard in CM for this one. Poulsen and Meireles may turn out to be a good combination, but seeing as they've never started a game together and have a grand total of four PL games between them, I'm not sure Old Trafford is the right place to try them out.

Didn't Meireles play in front of Gerrard when he came on as a sub against Birmingham?

The only improvement on that is Kelly at RB with Johnson on the right of the three, but that will never happen, so the above team is the best we can hope for. If he plays Lucas or Jova, I'm turning over.

I think he just stayed back him when he saw that Meireles was ahead of him, in much the same way that Meireles would do if Gerrard was getting forward. Or at least, that's how I would envisage the partnership working.

If anything I'd say it's the best time to try to, Kelly looks more defensively solid then Johnson based on this season, but with Johnson tracking back, I think we'll look more solid on that flank defensively, but also Johnson is capable of being more of an offensive threat than Maxi.

agreed. We must dare to keep the ball in our team on Sunday. If we let the mancs use the ball they will push us over.

I dunno... he said something to Gerrard when he got on the field. I kind of presumed that was Roy's instruction for Gerrard to move back to CM.

Your method sounds fine, but it might need a few games for them to figure out each other's games before it works properly.

Why are people totally writing us off from this fixture? It's always a toughie but we've got a fit gerrard and a Torres who seems to resemble what id imagine is close to full match fitness.

Raul M looked pretty nifty at the weekend, I'd like to see him get best part of thursdays 90 to show what he can do and potentially throw him into the mix.

Plus Utd were ordinary against Rangers last night, albeit with a weekened team and hardly set the world alight at the weekend.

Amen to that, although I'm weirdly tempted to play Lucas over Poulsen.

He's played alright against United in the past, and Poulsen looked worse than Lucas the other day.

God, it's like choosing how you would like to be tortured.

NO NO NO, No Lucas and no Jovanavic.

Lucas made Poulson look bad, I'm sure he'll be better with someone half decent next to him.
