Man Utd... What is it about them that make us hate them so much ?

The truth of the matter is this:

1) We hate them because over the years they were coming closer and closer to our total of league titles - just so happens that today they have surpassed that total.
2) We hate them because they are the 2nd most successfull english club in Europe in terms of European Cup wins and we fear that eventually they will surpass our 5 European Cups
3) We hate them because their manager made a statement of intent when he arrived that he wanted to knock us off to the top - and every season he has come closer and closer while we faded and still fade away, and he has achieved part 1 of his mission after 20 years of trying.

The above is the truth - our hate is driven by our deepest fears regarding the fading glories of our own team, and their consistency and dominance domestically. We can of course always say that:

1) Their drive to succeed was driven to reach our standards - without our succeses they would have nothing big to aim for really would they ? - even their current manager mentioned it (reference point 3 above).
2) Their success of years ago was achieved for them by a former Liverpool Captain
3) The 19th title came from a penalty taken by a Scouser (even though he is a blue shite at heart).
4) They achieved their 19th title by also using a former Anfield idon - in Michael Owen.

errrr, wazza m'lad, you do realise you could have achieved the same effect by just shaving '19' INTO your chest hair, don't you, you fucking knuckle-dragging halfwit?

We really gave up this record years ago. We've been number 2,3 and now 4 for years :-* :-* :-*. Today means nowt to me. But I do remember as a kid in the 80 s really teasing united kids on how they hadn't won the league since the 60s. How ironic

i don't agree with that, you make us sound frightened of them. if you really want to boil it down it's because they qualify as major rivals in all of the important ways: 'size' of club, geographical proximity/rivalry, level of success over the years, and that cumulative effect is very powerful. all the other stuff is incidental; like i said, even as an 8 year old watching the game on tv when they hadn't won a title for 23 years, i could still sense and share in an intense rivalry just from the passion in the pictures.

also, you only have to see how much they hate us RIGHT NOW to see you're wrong.

Watching MOTD right now, its just sunk in.......... And it hurts........

Surely seeing this is now our biggest motivation, maybe this was what we needed to reclaim our crown.....

I hope we smash those cunts next season...(sorry vodka talking)

I ain't the vodka - your speaking for all of us !!!!

Now a challenge has indeed been put before us - maybe we did get tired of winning the league and maybe this is now our wake up call.

No matter how you try and hide it - the truth is we are all frightened - our record was like our pretty girlfriend that just got f*cked by another bloke while we were tied up watching him bang her. Thats what happened today. No we are not frightened of them as a team - we fear them for their success which today has finally broken our record of league wins. Its a different type of fear but its still fear.

You're so obviously wrong I don't know why you're arguing. Yes, we've all been dreading this to some extent for a while now, but the point is there's MUCH more to the hatred than the fear you identify. If there wasn't, why do they still hate us with such a passion???

We've been off our perch for years. Today means nought really. They've eclipsed us for over 10 years. At least with Kenny back it doesn't feel so hopeless !

I wish I could agree with that, but yesterday annoyed the living f'ck out of me, more than ever when I reflected on the fact that we've been the authors of our own inability to stay ahead of them by having the club so mismanaged for so long.

Ferguson expects us to challenge next season. Let's make sure we prove him right.

I honestly don't get why this moment is so painful.

The last 20 fucking years have been agonising, a slow, writhing, painful slip from what we were & their ability to not only fill the gap, but to do so in such a dominating fashion, at a time where success is rewarded all the more so, thus guaranteeing them even more global presence every year.

Number 19 is a milestone for them, & a millstone for us. Now it's gone, we can concentrate on our future.

That is key. Brian Reade summed it up yesterday; we have the past, Utd have the present, can Kenny steal the future from Fergie?

Onwards & upwards. So our league titles has been bettered, thy took twenty years to do so & we stood idly by & let them throughout. I've honestly felt more bothered throughout the last twenty years than I do now.

I agree with one thing you said though, challenging next season is paramount, & with Kenny, I think we might just do that.

"Painful" isn't how I'd describe it either, but I in my turn have difficulty understanding how any Liverpool fan wouldn't be stung by the fact (a) that we've lost the record - for now - and (b) that we've done so to our bitterest rivals.

Nor do I share the view that any aspect of our successful past is a millstone - on the contrary, it's a spur, reminding us of our fundamental standards and of the need to re-establish them. Without it we'd have been content to continue the slide towards mediocrity on which we embarked when Moores became chairman a little under 20 years ago.

Obv.we do agree though that the future is our priority now. I'm more optimistic about it today than I've been throughout those 20 long years.

I think you misunderstand, I don't mean to say our past is a millstone. The idea of 19 is though, fans from both sides have been so hung up on it, but I've honestly accepted the idea that in reality we arent top dog anymore & havent been for a long time, when the club realise that & start to aim at getting back to the very top(as I believe Kenny is doing) it can only be a good thing. In that way we're both singing from the same hymn sheet, I just dont think '19' is fundamental in any way other than to cement what every football fan knew already.

No.19 could only be seen as a "millstone" against the background of having won 18 in the past. Call it a millstone, and it seems to be that you inevitably include what preceded it. Wanting to get back to the top does encompass more than just wanting to get back ahead of the Mancs in terms of titles won, but we'll have to agree to differ on the significance of that - hence of no.19 - as a factor.

Anyhoo, on we go, eh?

Yesterday was a horrible day. That the scum won no.19 was inevitable.

We haven't been on our perch for nearly 2 decades but it still hurt and by George did the cunts rub it in.

I certainly hope that their league win will be a catalyst for our re-emergence especially with the appointment of Kenny.

Absolutely nothing will give me greater satisfaction than for Kenny to put Fergie into retirement.

I think thats what will happen - I really do.

Even cunts hate them...

"@piersmorgan: @GNev2 Not a good time to stick your rat-like features into this debate Mr Neville. Trust me."

Also because Man United is the name of a gay bar, not a football club.
