ahhh now, I am doing well here, he lived just around the corner when he was managing Everton, on old Allerton Road, opposite the entrance to Calderstones park.

Apart from being involved with the blueshite , what is the problem with BB Ryan?

A dirty, horrible, bigoted fuck.

You would have to go a long way to find many of that generation in Belfast the weren't, a bigot that is.

Umm, that's not really true Vlad.

Regardless, Bingham's position wasn't the average man on the street. He was manager for the National football team, and thus choosing not to select certain Catholic players wasn't something very becoming of someone in his role.

Who was he not picking Ryan? I'm not saying what you say is innacurate but I remember Bingham's best teams being built around Catholic players, that the spine of his most famous team was Catholic. Jennings, Donaghy, MON (Captain), Armstrong, etc.

Non?

I think that Bingham is tagged a bigot because of the way he whipped up the supporters in those matches against the Republic, which was wrong and stupid. I can't think of any decent catholic players who should have made it into the Norn Iron team but didn't during his tenure. I'd be disgusted if that were true.

Gerry Taggart and Anton Rogan off the top of my head.

Both of them with hundreds of appearances in top flight British football. Both of them with fucking buttons of international caps.

It's true mate.

Gerry Taggart got over 50 caps for NI, was given his debut by Bingham and was a fixture in his squads thereafter, so that's bollocks. Anton Rogan wasn't very good, not even good enough for Celtic as it happened, and if anything he was being saved from the fans who treated him horribly (along with anyone who played for Celtic), but at the end of the day we had better players than him in his position.

Your argument seems piss weak mate if this is your evidence. I can cite loads of Catholic players he built his teams around and you give me Anton Rogan? I do wonder why a raving bigot would give the captaincy to Catholic players too. Jennings and MON were his captains for most of his tenure, so what's that about?

FINISH HIM!!!!

How am I the first person to say this?

Ferguson
Roy Keane

Understand the Michael Thomas hate obviously, but they'd be nowhere near #19 without Keane in my opinion.

Ha, Brens right Doc, you have him on the ropes....Mention that Anton Rogan as average as he was still got most of his 18 caps under Bingham ,oh and what about this......
There should have been many more appearances but while Billy Bingham omitted him on occasions, this was due primarily to a series of injuries. "Each time I was about to get fit I would pull a hamstring," he said. "
The only thing it seems Bingham was bigoted about here was ham strings.... 😉

Just read a bit about being hated by the fans as he played for Celtic , as Doc says seems to have been an issue, when your own fans are singing "If you hate Anton Rogan clap your hands", it could be a bit of a problem.

And Vlad delivers the coup de grace.

The fact of the matter is that Bingham had such a small pool of players that he couldn't afford to have a bigoted selection policy. Northern Ireland other than T&T are the smallest country to qualify for the World Cup, and Bingham managed it twice. The teams that qualified in 1982 and 1986 were filled with catholic players, and some of the players he trusted the most to carry out his tactics were catholics, especially MON and Jennings who he clearly had a deep respect and affection for. He might have been bigoted in private life, I've no idea, but to say that he selected players on basis of their religion is demonstrably utter bollocks.
