Madrid to offer £16.5m for "Magic"

I think we can count the good players we have on one hand if we sell them even for what seems like good fees then I am writting off next season because I have ZERO confidence in managements ability to pick up good players.

it's our DUTY to build on the few good players we have rather than selling them in the gamble that we can replace them cheaply (well, not cheaply) with the money we make, because that has worked out so well for us in the past.

Spidey you said yourself yesterday you don't see us having much to spend this summer, which is most likely correct, how the fuck do we build with no money ?

And why do you want to build on a core that has shown itself to be capable only of midtable. Sell the core, start again.

by selling the players we bought in the summer who have contributed next to nothing in the league.

We may have to sell three or four players to get the money that we could get for Johnson. Those players would have to be replaced too, and it's very unlikely that we'd do that cheaply.

It all depends if he really wants to go, I wouldn't be one for making an unhappy player stay. If he's his heart set on Spain and they're offering for 16.5m, I'd hold out for 20m and use the cash to strengthen centre midfield.

the wage bill has been greatly reduced so you'd assume that if the yanks simply give us what we've earnt we're looking at 25-30m. sell the players on the fringe and the utter duds of the summer (if we're able to) and that gives us a healthy budget for the summer.
if the yanks aren't going to dip into their pocket then they can't expect us to compete with the elite.

obviously if he wants out (couldn't blame him) then by all means sell.

downing - 12m
carroll - 15m
adam - 5m
henderson - 8m

Or sell the worst finisher in the Premier League for 35m+
and one of the worst defenders in the Premier League for 16.5m

We keep our squad depth and have 50m to improve the first team.

There's also the fact that we'd end up paying some of the contracts for the likes of Downing (who was worth about 12m when we signed him and only played good games against Championship sides since) and Carroll.

Really ?

by how much ?

I don't think it's changed at all

It's fucking illegal for the Yanks to dip into their pockets so forget about that. we can compete with the elite so long as we spend our money correctly. It's always been the case.

he does, but I don't think he does it as well as johnson.

So if he does, and with game time, he'll get much better - why not play him? Ok, so he won't attack as well - and may never will, but he'll do a good enough job AND he'll be a far more stable defender. Would you rather we keep Kelly on the bench for 3-4 years and then move GlenJo on for 5-7 million? Or let Kelly develop into the player he can be?

I'll give Kelly one thing I think he has over Johnson going forward, and that is that I think he's a better crosser of the ball. Really though i'd like to see Kellys development heading towards centre back.

I see it as one of the most attacking fullbacks in the league whose defending is no where near as bad as some people make out.
and a world class striker who had his season derailed by off field scandal.

as I said before I have no confidence in comolli (or kenny) to go out and spend wisely the money they make. I would rather sell players who were brought in in the summer and failed to make an impact in the team (obviously for a loss) and gamble on cheaper attacking options.
imho defense is the one area of the team that shouldn't be touched.

I want kelly to develop into the player he can be at centre back.

Kelly!

Get rid of the last one* at the club please

*players with shit hair

Neil, Rosco's clearly trolling you, why're you biting?

ross isn't trolling, he clearly believes what he is saying and if I trusted our scouting network to wisely use the money they made from a suarez and johnson sale I would agree.

3 transfer windows
carroll - 35m
suarez - 25m
downing - 20m
henderson - 16m
adam - 8m
enrique - 7m
bellamy - free
doni - free?

and I'm supposed to be happy that one of the few players in our 23 man squad I rate is going to sold? I don't think so, more likely they'll take the money and buy another clogger to fling on the (very large) pile of cloggers.

Why? He's not needed there with Agger and Skrtel who are young for centre backs and who can be our defensive pairing for years.

We have Kelly, Coates and Flanagan, not to mention McLaughlin who could come through too. We're overstocked defensively, and we need the money, so we should sell.

I do agree we need to ship out some duds in other areas of the squad, but we don't actually have any ready made replacements for them.

So you want him to wait 3-5 years until he gets consistent game time at CB, and even then, compete with Coates and/or Skrtl/Agger? HOw will he develop into that player? Is that how Carra developed? What are we losing if we play Kelly over GlenJo? Attacking flair? Check. Goals? Not really. Assists? Probably. Set piece threat? Nope. Defensive strength? Nope. I'd rather we do what's best for Liverpool, and I think we have a good opportunity here.

I do like Johnson and wanted him here long before we paid £17M to bring him in, but I think it's a good idea to sell.

He hasn't quite developed into the player I hoped he would and selling him would make sense providing the money went on a decent striker or attacking option. Also Flannigan and Kelly look on their way to becoming decent Premiership players so it shouldn't impact upon us too much.

My only worry is Kenny Dalglish and Comolli will spend the £16.5M on Lee Cattermole, in which case it would be a fucking disaster.

THIS GUY.....I'm telling you....

we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. all I see is us getting rid of another player with true ability on the ball, soon we will have a team that will be best described as 'workmanlike' that is if we're not there already.
