WTF seriously ?! I can't think of one thing that Toney is better at (heading, power, crossing, distance passing, pace) although both miss a lot of chances so conversion rate is probably close. BTW lots of comparisons with Lukaku but the Utd fans aren't having it because Lukaku ... is one lazy git.
@King Binny : do you have one of those head-to-head wheel charts of Nunez vs Toney? Cheers !

Can't find one that's updated with this season's stats. This is last season's comparison:

It's pretty clear (in the Darwin vs Toney discussion) that Nunez is crushing it (xg+assists per 90 mins is 1.04 vs 0.55 excluding penalties) but Toney's overall stats are not to be disregarded in terms of tackling back etc. but note that in most charts they include penalties. Of course one is playing for Brentford and the other Liverpool !

Toney is developing into a very good Premier league striker, no doubt. Can see him moving to a bigger club next summer.
Probably one of the best penalty takers in the league.

Yes I am a little lukewarm on him...but I DO like Nunez, he's definitely not a lazy player, he works hard and seems to be doing many positive things. Stats do prove some things...but from the eye test from watching Toney and Darwin Toney to me doesn't have that clumsy indecisiveness that Darwin sometimes has shown...and Its not just United fans or other rivals who have been teasing Nunez for this side of his game, even Benfica fans were making fun Darwins ball control before signing him. Anyways you can still be a great striker and not have amazing ball control. Lukaku has made a fantastic career out of having a first touch like a sledgehammer...

Yes I know I have to move on from the previous trio we had and accept the club has moved on with Darwin Nunez...so far it looks like Darwin is getting better and better and as I said before when Diaz and Jota return maybe that forward line will help make Darwin's abilities even better.

Considering Sturridge got a 6 weeks ban for a single charge related to his transfer, without actually making any bets himself then I suspect this could be his season over.

The thing is Studge was getting friends to bet on something for which he had inside info (as in, where he was going to move in the transfer market). If Toney was just laying into accumulators, and backing himself to score a hattrick, I honestly don't see that as being a terrible thing. If he puts a bet on himself to get sent off and then goes in two-footed during the game, that's another matter....

You know what guys looking forward to the world cup, but if you ask me about LFC I am not missing the tension but am missing Darwin, I have not been this excited about watching a player since R9 or Torres. Don't ask why but the pace and power thing in strikers I miss, especially the tall ones who are athletic as well.

This is not a dig at city, but could be because I ain't seen much of Haarland, but the games I have seen him in - I don't find him as exciting as Nunez.

If you look at the positions they take up, and the goals they've scored, mostly headers and close range strikes, then there isn't a lot to differentiate between their styles of play. The difference between the two is that Nunez has a greater responsibility to progress the play through his running and link up play, and as a result finds himself with more opportunities to shoot from distance or attack on the counter. Haaland is just getting used by a battering ram by City. He's tasked with getting on end of pass 1000 and stick it in the net against a compact and crowded defence. It's clearly very effective and efficient, but we're really seeing 60% of what Haaland is capable of. You would see a more exciting player if City went more direct, because he's absolutely terrifying in space, or in any 1 on 1 situation.

I'm not always Barney Ronay's biggest fan TBH (there are time when he heavily overwrites his articles IMO, in a style worthy of Pseud's Corner in "Private Eye"), but that one's not too bad and the content is defo interesting and encouraging.
