Edinson Cavani's agent has stressed the Uruguay international intends to honour his Napoli contract in spite of ongoing links with Manchester City.

City boss Roberto Mancini is an admirer of Cavani's talent, and in January it was suggested the Italian was weighing up a big-money move for the striker.
With the summer transfer window on the horizon, speculation has again renewed over Cavani's future, although his representative has stressed he is currently committed to his contract at Napoli which expires in 2016.
"I do not want to answer to the question about whether Cavani will stay or go," Claudio Anellucci told Canale 34.
"Edinson answered that Saturday and he was very clear, but everyone can interpret what he said the way they want. For every player it is important to have the team's future very clear, but financial matters are also important.
"Napoli have a serious project and any player would like to be part of it. Cavani has a contract and he wants to respect it."
Cavani, 25, was quizzed about his future at the weekend, with the forward asked whether he would remain at fifth-placed Napoli even if they missed out on Champions League qualification.
He said: "I don't know, the club will deal with this sort of thing. I am focused only on playing my football and winning every game. The club will think about the rest and they know what to do."

Obviously there will be players wholl ditch the Champions to move 'up'

A player his sort of stock, Id imagine would be a bridge too far without masses of money being spent on a 'project'.

Of all the "rumour" talks, he's the one player I'd really love us to sign. Never gonna happen though.

Why be interested in him, when we can get the ***premiership proven *** version in Stephen Fletch for for £20 million 🙄

He'd cost about 40 million.
You get what you pay for (usually). To think we could have had Cavani for the money we paid for Carroll.

The truth is, that you need a manager who will attract foreign talent. Sadly Kenny is not that manager, especially with the questionmark over his position.

The Project could be the plan to be a pipeline for Uruguay to Europe? Young Nacional players, Lugano, Suarez, And Cavani?

Off on a tangent here but today Christian Eriksen's agent has confirmed they've turned down Man City last Summer. And loads of other unnamed clubs.

He doesn't say why but it sure does leave some hope that not all players are just moving where the money is.

Cavani would be an awesome coup but as being said an immensely expensive one too. To be honest I wasn't that impressed with him during the WC but his recent years in Napoli surely underlines why he's top of many a posters lists.

The only reason can be that he's a boyhood Liverpool fan and is joining us this summer.

Like Luis Suarez? 😉

I think we need Geoff Shreeves to tell localny that we won't be signing Cavani.

Occasionally this happens, but the deal was in the works when Woy was around..

Well, yes, but Kenny himself probably put it there in his previous role. Hodgson would hardly have been the attraction, would he? Honestly mate, I don't think that judgment of yours is fair on Kenny.

Didn't he do an interview last year saying something similar and that he wanted to stay another season to develop?

Fair enough JJ - I just don't see the appeal of KD to players beyond our orbit of fans. Rafa had a rep as a good manager, and that seemed to help bring in a few gems. Mind you they were all Spanish speaking! 🙂

He did mate but there's something cooking at Ajax these days.

They've just signed another Dane in Lasse Schöne from NEC Nijmegen who plays more or the less the same position as Eriksen and without jumping to conclusions I'd be surprised if he wasn't being promised to play a lot before signing - which would be rather difficult with Eriksen around as well.

He's been there best player all Season long with Vertonghen and both looked destined for a move, but it's obviously not a certain. And who knows perhaps they'll both stick around for another ChL campaign.
