Well I've watched us win so many trophies it seemed like that was how you counted the years - how many trophies we'd won. Last year utterly shattered me and all this blather about us only having a slight chance and it was a stretch to think we'd win it etc revisionist crap. Any team in history that comes down to the last 3 games only needing 7 points to win it and then finishing two points off the top has blown it. There's no two ways about it.
The table doesn't lie?? Well, 35 games into a 38 game season doesn't lie either. We'd done enough to win the title. A draw, at home, to a weakened Chelsea team and we'd have been the champions.
I don't really blame anyone for it; Stevie has carried us for so many years he could hit a dozen own goals and still be forgiven. Rodgers pissed me off a little with his attitude after the Chav game. Saying that he could never set his team out to play that way was rubbish though it did, at least, indicate the emotional investment he had in the team. If all you need is a point from a game to give you the title then you play in whatever manner will deliver that point.
All that said it's been so long since I felt such pride in our performances I was willing to forgive some mistakes here and there. Winning is, of course, everything but last season the panache and style with which we played had more people talking than the eventual victors. It was epic; the loss of the title was devastating but it was, fortunately, mitigated by the style with which we played the season.
