I'm not too sure about short keepers either but 189 cm is a decent height for a keeper.
Pepe Reina is 188 cm tall.

189 cm in feet is 6ft 2in

Karius would be one of the shortest keepers in the premiership.
Only Schmeichel and Speroni are shorter.

6ft 2.4 to be precise. So he's around the same height as Adrian, Vorm, his almost-namesake Lloris, Fabianski etc - very normal GK height, not fair to say he's "short," just not one of the super-tall ones.

[article]Cristian Nyari, journalist with New York Times, Goal, Bundesliga Fanatic and others, told Outside of the Boot this about Loris Karius.

“Karius is one of the most consistent and talented young goalkeepers in Europe which says a lot considering Germany’s tradition of developing world class players in that position and the large pool of talent available. Karius excels especially in reading of the game similar to Ter Stegen and Neuer and being part of building the game out of the back at Mainz. He has an excellent future ahead of him, whether that’s in the Bundesliga or abroad.”

And here’s what Alex Chaffer of Sky Sports, DW Sports and FourFourTwo told us about the German youngster.

“Loris Karius has proven to be one of the most consistent young goalkeepers in Europe, while playing in a league saturated by top shot-stoppers. Since taking over the goalkeeping reigns from veteran Heinz Müller at Mainz two seasons ago, the now 22-year old has shone in the lovable team. He broke the club’s Bundesliga record for clean sheets with 11 last season and has earned a place in the Germany U21 team. With so many goalkeepers to watch in the Bundesliga, Karius has taken advantage of his limited spotlight time to quietly improve over his short career. I expect it to continue.”[/article]

With Klopps relationship with Mainz, he surely will have recieved a lot of information about this lad.

Worried about timing of disclosing this information it might affect Mings performance in goal for the final.

Meh, nothing official yet and he had to see the writing on the wall. Maybe he thinks Karius is just a replacement for Bogdan 🙂

I think Karius and Mingnolet will battle it out during the upcoming season. If we manage to win the EL final there will be tons of games to go around.

Liverpool are closing in on a £4.7million deal for Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius.
No deal has yet been agreed but the talks are ongoing and the Reds are confident of securing the services of the Germany Under-21s international.
Boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the 22-year-old, who has already clocked up some 91 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
Liverpool have had Karius watched extensively this season and Klopp believes the 6ft 3ins shot-stopper is the ideal recruit to provide greater competition for Anfield No 1 Simon Mignolet.
The Reds signed Adam Bogdan on a free transfer a year ago but the Hungary international is expected to leave the club this summer having struggled to impress.
Danny Ward, who was recalled from a loan spell at Aberdeen in January, has shone on his two senior outings and does have a future with Liverpool.

However, the Wales international could go out on loan again next term to gain further experience with Huddersfield Town keen to take him on a temporary deal.
Klopp has close ties with Mainz having managed the club from 2001 to 2008 before taking over at Borussia Dortmund.
Karius is no stranger to English football having spent two years in Manchester City’s youth ranks before leaving at the age of 17 in 2011.
He returned to his homeland, progressed through the ranks at Mainz and has proved himself to be one of the most consistent keepers in the Bundesliga. This season he helped them secure Europa League qualification via a sixth-placed finish.

We already have the best potential keeper in our organization. Someone slap a pair of gloves on LeBron. 6'8" and a freak athlete with hands bigger than Ming's torso. Make it happen John Henry.
