Looks Like We Really Werner Sign Him...

Re: moving to UNited, if he's willing to go to United instead of us, it shows a complete lack of ambition going to a lower club, in transition, for more money, and I frankly don't want the lad,

I'd like to note this as a historic statement. It's the first time in my adult life, I've ever said that
A bit contradictory, isn't it? Could be applied to a lot of players we've signed over the years.

If Werner (or any other big price tag forward) comes then it's to bed him in to replace one of the front three when they go imo, not to be long term 4th choice or alternate forward, imo.

I'd hope a forward of some repute like Werner would fancy his chances of pushing his way into this team. Bobby is great at times but he's by no means unassailable, in fact it's only Mane that has been undrop(rest)able recently.

That's a shame, we need a viable and top quality attacking option to allow rotation of the front three and also have more ways of playing.
Barca & Real aside I can't think of any club that has a backup forward at the same level as their 'first choice'. Most are a considerable step down. Even Jesus at City isn't close to the same level as Aguero. And it's likely all to do with being seen as the main man and being that 'first choice' in all the important games.

arsenal!

Maybe I need to whisper this, but I'm not convinced Werner is anything more than a German Vardy, or dare I say it, a slightly better Divock. He plays in a team where he's allowed to counter into space, and he can make the best of his only real traits, pace and power. He's not in a team that dominates the ball and has to break down teams, where he has to play patient and clever, I think he's quintessentially the wrong fit for this side.

I think it will be Salah that leaves, he is a marked man in this league and i think we have seen the best of him already. But I agree, if we get a prove goal scorer they are not gonna be happy bench warmers.

Christ, are we moving into that territory with fucking Noddy Keita now?

Stage 1: New, adjusting, pace of the league, language barrier etc. Will be a star!
Stage 2: Injured/ dropped
Stage 3: Second season, injury-free, easing him in. Will come good.
Stage 4: Plays with the stiffs in second-tier matches. Is not good.
Stage 5: Maybe we need a new formation that suits him? Buy him a mate he knows and has played with? ANYTHING FOR GOD'S SAKE.
Stage 6: Loan
Stage 7: Sold/ leaves on a free.
Stick to 5 for now. I think its what the guy needs. Some people are like that, have seen it at work .. am sure you have. New managers bring their coaching staff and replace existing ones, we bought a succession of Southampton players....etc..

I think Vardy would do brilliantly in this team.

When one of our front three leaves we'll change playing style. If we haven't done so already. Klopp has continually adapted our style of play (something that's lost on many of our fans, bizarrely), but the front three haven't changed much in terms of style of play at all.

Really hope so Fox, all this winning constantly is getting boring, I really hope City spank us on Sunday.

Would have been happier to sign him a few years ago, but at 33 or whatever, it would be short-term and expensive.

He's been very good indeed unde Rodgers, after not really enjoying himself while Puel was there.

I could be wrong, but I think @KingDing is saying that if Vardy would be brilliant in our team, then a younger German version of Vardy would be a good thing.

Ah right. Well, what I liked about Vardy when I was first really watching him was his amazing work rate and how he hounded United in a game when he was fairly unknown.

It was a great display, like how Ian Rush and that Liverpool team used to harry defences before it was called 'pressing high up the pitch' or gegenpressing or whatever.

But he didn't score enough, despite that work rate and pace, but that changed afterwards and he's been pretty reliable since. And on fire at times.

He's a better finisher than Firmino, and works as hard, but he's certainly not as skilful or creative as the Brazilian, and nowhere near him in terms of tackling and retrieving the ball; he's very much more about playing on the shoulder rather than dropping deep.

For a lad who only came the premiership in 2014 at 27 scoring 90 odd goals in 178 appearances is very impressive. Take out his first season where he scored 5 in 34 and his stats are extremely impressive. 85 in 140.

He’s been super consistent for a while now and will crack 100 premier league goals this season

Is it really that bad to get a German Vardy?

I don't think he will score 100 league goals this season, OK he has 10 already but i can't see him getting another 90.

I really like what I see of Werner and think he suits a lot of our style but yet to be totally convinced by his ability or willingness to press. I always thought he looked stronger as a wide forward than a CF but I've only seen him in highlights outside of 2-3 full 90 min games.

No, although I don't think he's as good as Vardy, hence my fallback to Divock, I just think their styles / strengths are very similar, and I don't think they're strengths that are best shown in the Liverpool team.

I get that you have reservations man, but it's 70 million player we're getting for less than half the price.
Worth a gamble imo.

It probably is.. but worth saying that it's not just the money, it's the time.

If it doesn't work out, not having someone capable could cost us. Look at the Keita situation. We've managed but we've really missed having what he was supposed to bring t o the team.

Well Keita cost a lot more also we've been very unlucky. Add Ox to that as well.
Is there a like for like striker out there that can replace deputise for Firmino? I don't know. Ideally Brewster would be the one.
I don't know Klopp's thinking we'll just have to wait and see.

Still does my nut in that we spent £145m on rebuilding the midfield and we got one top-class DM and that's it.

If Keita was what we hoped Keita worked out to be, I think we'd have a league title already.

That's what happens though, unfortunately. We got other buys very right.

If i step back even a little bit though, it does my nut in that we're doing so much right and still might not get a league because there's another team out there who has been throwing infinite money at a very very good squad for a decade. That, you can't do much about.

He passed it forwards 5 yards aswell!

Literally tore them to shreds!

To play devils advocate for Keita, the position he's been playing in midfield and the sorts of games he has been playing aren't really very expressive positions, for anyone. Especially with the players around him.
