Apart from the obvious selection cockup with the back 4.. I've no idea what Rodgers was thinking...

So just all a little bit Meh... :meh:

This was horrendous. Just plain awful.
No surprise in the end. Soton looked like team and we did our best to look disjointed as fuck.

Rodgers fucked it up massively.

Awful team set-up. Awful performance. Awful result.

Not too difficult to understand really.

Henderson's worst game in two years. He was beyond terrible.

No sharpness at all in the touch and passing today throughout the team just a complete dud.

What's happening? we looked as if we had played for 4 hours in the second half - Pochettino could give a few lessons to Rogers in how to set up a team and how to retain possession. They pressed us all over the pitch for 90 minutes - what a surprise - just like they did last season. We just looked clueless.

Not good enough, there was no reason to fuck around with things at the back, and the unnecessary dropping of Enrique did wonders for his confidence - he was dire.

Lucas did ok but again, he just seems a pointless aspect of these encounters, put Henderson in the middle of the park. Gerrard was woeful again, I don't care what anyone says, he needs a kick up the arse.

What he was thinking with Sakho at left back is mind boggeling.
I hate it when its all about being clever and overcomplicating things.
Keep it simple. Fuck off.

We missed GlenJo and Coutinho today.
And thankfully Suarez is back now. But that 4 CB shite was something Rodgers should hold his hand up for, ridiculous.

same old same old , you knew we were going to lose when they got the goal even though there was a fair whack of time left .

and it's disappointing that we started and finished the summer window with just 3 players who can win us a game (suarez, sturridge and coutinho ) .

early days again but aspas looks wank

Rodgers .. step forward and take a bow, this defeat was all your engineering.
Agree completely.

Is this top of the league wobly legs from the gaffer already?

Long ball, counter-attacking football at home fielding 4 CB's and no intention to own the ball at their half.

Amateurish and dire and to be honest not all that surprising.

God-awful performance. Yes, Rodgers has been dealt a hard hand with all the injuries, but he didn't even come close to solving the problems. 4 CBs is not a solution, Aspas at #10 is not a solution. We started looking much more coherent when Sterling, Enrique and Alberto came on and Henderson moved to RB, but by that time Southampton were comfortably defending a lead and our players kept making the stupid errors of judgement which are all but inevitable when you play for 60 minutes in a confused state and get increasingly frustrated by your and your teammates' inability to produce anything.

Only caught last 30 minutes but this was a performance from the tailend of Rafa's tenure. Players in odd positions, no coherence, didnt look like scoring for all the gold in the New World. I worry about our mentality. We looked more like giving up a second than scoring an equalizer.

Sterling was very poor. Sturridge was both selfish and off the pace. Gerrard was poor. Subs had no impact. Mignolet is thankfully a great shotstopper.

Its even more annoying that we start playing well when the team that we all knew would be the best bet was on the pitch. But by then it was to late.

No full back so we were unable to push up the pitch and stretch play. No creativity.
I thought Sakho looked alright.
Thank fuck Suarez is back.

but aren't retaining possession and pressing hard two of rodgers's core footballing beliefs ? i wonder what rodgers is trying as we don't look to be concentrating on them , well certainly the retaining possession part , like we did last season . Is he trying to change the style again ? perhaps not but one things for sure , we haven't looked a "footballing" team so far this season at all.

For me...

  • I didn't mind the back four, but Agger was mediocre at best. Sakho looked good enough at LB, and Toure provided enough attacking threat at RB. I thought we were better with Sakho at LB rather than Enrique, but that came down to Enrique's poor passing today. Agger one of our worst for me, I think he might be our fourth choice center half now.
  • Lucas was awesome for the first third of the game, decent for the middle third, and then very meh towards the end. Played a bit too advanced sometimes, which isn't really playing to his strengths
  • Sturridge couldn't get on the ball at all for the first 20-30 Minutes, and then he got a ton of chances to make things happen. Only had a couple shots, and neither from a particularly good angle. Not sure if this comes down to his positioning, or the players around him. Should have had a pen, but these things happen.
  • Moses was everything you want in a winger: power, pace, technical ability. Sterling good in his cameo, but he should have done better when he was played in.
  • Henderson/LAR were acceptable. Henderson with a few bad giveaways and not on top form, but I think he was let down by his midfield later on
  • Gerrard horrible outside of his two free kicks. Would like to see someone else take corners, it's amazing we didn't have more threat on them considering we were playing four center halves. We really live and die by our two deeper midfielders, and I find it hard to justify playing Gerrard on this form. Maybe he just needs a week off.
  • Aspas had a few nice moments, and a few poor ones. No complaints from me, you have to take the good with the bad from him.
  • Had some tough decisions go against us, but that's how these things go. No legitimate complaints
  • Mignolet was fantastic again, and he gets slated a lot for his distribution, but I do think the distribution of Reina gets trumped up some. Most of Reina's supposed ability came from starting counter attacks after set pieces, not playing the team out of a goal kick with half a dozen opposition players pressing in our own half. I don't have a problem with hoofing it considering we're retaining possession anyways, with less stress at the back as well.

Enrique was soooo awful when he came in, i would much rather have had Sakho continue to play there...

Aspas is pure shite. But Moses and Alberto are going to be alright.
