Liverpool v Southampton League Cup Semi Final Second Leg Match Thread

Fair play Southampton they deserve this, but my word, what a cunt of an end, denied one of the more obvious penalties I've seen all season for them then to score straight away at the other end.

You knew it wasn't going to be our night when Sturridge missed that sitter. It was easier to score than miss.

This had shades of England vs Iceland, maybe not quite as soul-crushingly awful but many of our players couldn't do anything right on the night, it's like their legs were frozen. Passes either underhit or overhit, shit defending and when we did get clear chances, we missed them with aplomb. It is a crisis all right.

I hope Klopp knows how to fix this, and is given the funds to do so

We need three or four new players of the highest quality

Quietly impressed by Southampton.

They keep selling their best players yet they are not far off from the best teams. We are the ones buying their best players and we can't even seem to beat the ones we don't buy from them.

Loudly frustrated with us. So many questionmarks still. Too many players not really top class. Dammit.

Southampton are a good side. But we should have won that. We just don't have enough about us in the final 3rd when a team defends deep and parks the double decker bus completely.

Even with Mane, the chances would have been few and far between. In a game like this, we need the option of an aerial threat from crosses (and preferably a left footed LB who can deliver). An Ibrahimovic/Giroud/Costa/Kane. A proper CF. Daniel Sturridge isn't that player anymore.

Did I say we needed to win a trophy? Think so. And yet. Still. Mad people on here treat cup games like they're ours to lose (just throw anyone on, we're Liverpool, play the tea lady, we're SO good) while, in their crazy heads, we cruise to a top four finish. It's not 1990 any more, for godssake. The whole club needs to get wise. You sacked a manager for winning a cup? Winning is what we do. An idiot trying to control his saliva intake could've known what was needed for January. Yet nothing happened. Klopp needs backing, but he also needs to show some wisdom, because this has been dire.

At least we can put to bed the idea Studge is a great finisher, missed the big chances.

Can needs selling and we need two more pacey skillful wingers.

So one paced and narrow without Mane
