I was thinking about the Singapore game tomorrow, and thought that it was a bit unfair - it's a fucking country for gods sake. Then again I thought, we are only restricted by money - we can have anyone in the world playing for us...they have 4.8m people to choose from.

So, who would we choose if it were indeed Liverpool* (or Merseyside for arguments sake) - just 1.3m to choose from. Who would be our first choice 11 from current Merseysiders? I think there are three definates - Carragher, Gerrard & Rooney, but who else? Hibbert? Fowler? Nolan? Barton? I though that Warnock was definate for left back, until I remembered he was a whooly back from Ormskirk! I've no idea about a 'scouse' keeper, and Owen is from Cheshire.

Is there a dearth of Scouse talent at the moment?

Conversely, who would you choose for 'Greater' Manchester, and would they beat our local boys?

Liverpool:

-----------------------GK----------------------
Hibbert----Carragher----CB--------Baines
RW-----------CM------Gerrard----------LW
-------------Rooney------ST-----------------

Manchester:

-----------------------GK----------------------
G.Neville---Jagielka------Brown-------LB-
RW------P.Neville-----Scholes---------LW
------------------ST------ST-----------------

*Birthplace BTW, so Giggs is from Cardiff & Matteo is from Dumfries.

Can you name one truly world class Mancunian footballer?
On his day, Scholes. Obviously not the player he was (I'll also begrudgingly say that Gary Neville was 'OK').

Admittedly, being a scouser, I don't know my manc footballers too well.

Ball is the only LB i can think of.

Could have Kevin Nolan from a few seasons back in midfield.
Current day, is he better than psycho fuckwit Barton?

I reall can't think of a Merseyside keeper - is Tony Warner our best bet? Fuck.

I can't think of many truly top class Manchester born players, past or present. Seems strange for a passionate footballing City.

I was about to say Micah Richards, but he is a brummie, or Wright-Phillips, but he's a cock-a-knee.

Koumas?
Initially I thought yes, but for a few reasons I say no.

Koumas from a few years ago yes, but not now.
Is Koumas better than Barton or Nolan? I'd say no.
Is Koumas from Mersyside...No, Wrexham.

Sale, according to Wikipedia which never lies.

The Neville sisters for the mancs.

All seem to be from Gt Manc though.

I think Wes slightly Brown is from Moss side.
Ok, with the lack of better options I've put those three tossers in.

London would piss on either i think.

Thats what I thought, sure Brum has a lot of decent players too. London does have a population of 6 million more than Merseyside though, so understandable (and James is from Hertfordshire, not London!)

As for Oldham, it's in Greater Manchester.

What does greater merseyside include?

Cos doesn't Ormskirk have an 'L' postcode?

Wiki:

Greater Manchester is a metropolitan county in North West England, with a population of 2.56 million.[2] It encompasses one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United Kingdom and comprises ten metropolitan boroughs: Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan, and the cities of Salford and Manchester. Greater Manchester was created on 1 April 1974 as a result of the Local Government Act 1972.[1]

Reality:

Most people outside of Salford & Manchester reject the term 'Greater Manchester' & never use it, even though it was created in 72.
