Johnson's the best winger at Liverpool. As has been said many times before, he should be played RW with Kelly behind him.
Has Johnson ever played RW?
Yeah, he played for Pompey there a few times I think.

I think this needs trying.

I don't see what's to lose - Kuyt's injured, and we need pace and creativity on the flanks, plus it gives Kelly a chance to get some game time, and it seems it will improve us defensively too.

Was it you BM who said he looked a bit like Aaron Lennon? That was the impression I got when I saw him play.
I think Amoo is more comparable to someone like Cisse.

He's not that big, surely? Or that stupid. Surely?!

I'm not sure how tall he is, but he's certainly not small like Lennon and he's pretty built and strong as well... and doesn't run like a fairy.

I've never really seen him as someone that'll make it. He's big and fast, but then the lower leagues are full of guys like that. Hopefully this season he'll improve his technique and decision making and prove me wrong.

i was actually shocked when i saw him in an interview..

not what i expected..

He comes across as a very educated well spoken young man with a decent head on his shoulders.. From the way he plays id have considered him a bit more Pennant..

Haha, right.

"From the way he plays" read "Because he's young, black and from London".

Warm Carl with the biggest sweeping generalisation the site has ever seen, and you are mistaking Wales for Scotland.

Statistics trump me yet again!

i did not go to university coz i preffered to stay with my mates and get fucked up but i went to visit one and he lived with two welsh men. we watched a game at there house once it was arsenal who as you all know only have black men in there squad except for walcott. the welsh men were shouting "fuck off nigeria your shit c'mon man u" (they supported man u), totally racist

Nasri, Bendtner, Almunia, Fabianski, Rosicky, Arshavin, Koscielny and a few others are busy checking their mirrors right now.

There's good and bad everywhere, mate. By saying such things you reduce youself to their level.

So there you go: all United supporters are racist.

I recorded the ressies and watched it tonight (rather than the CL) and thought it was another interesting run out. Amoo is a bit one dimensional and despite getting 2 goals, doesn't do enough with the ball for me. He's direct and quick but rarely picks out his teammates in dangerous positions. That was Suso's least convincing performance for me and yet he pops up with an assist, and was involved in nearly all of our best chances, this despite being singled out by their players for close attention throughout. He's proper quality. I thought Shelvey had another game that suggests he's got the full gamut of skills you want from a midfielder- excellent range of passing, a great shot he unleashes from the edge of the area, and a powerful tackler. I think Robinson is looking very decent at left FB too, well timed runs forward, stinging tackles and good pace. The contrast with Darby was noticeable- he needs to go out on loan for the sake of a future in footy at any decent standard. He's stagnating, and was poor; the amount of crosses that came in from Wolves on the left told its own story. Wisdom looks a terrific prospect and I think he outshone Wilson, who I have recommended from his Rangers days.

We have some really talented youngsters on our books at the moment. Amoo I believe is a winger and will get better with time at the moment hes missing the end product bit similar to that of Aron Lennon when he first come on the scene.

Wisdom has be very impressive in every game I have seen him play in and Suso makes the most difficult of passes look easy a real talent that lad and only 16 years old.

They will all hopefully get a chance this year too.

Id assume Wilson would be first in the side, what with him having played for rangers in the CL last season. He has more first team experience than the others.

haha im not racist at all...

i meant that his play is very - Hustle bussle - dribble first/pass later.. his game intelligence at times is shockingly poor..

All Welsh racists? well thats obviously not true... Unless of course we are talking about the English..

😉

Appaz we can expect Shelvey and Wilson to start against Northampton in the Carling. I won't be surprised if Suso and Eccleston are at least on the bench.

Yeah, I think we'll see Suso on the bench. It'll be nice to see the youngsters / squaddies give a good performance for a change instead of our usual struggle in the Carling Cup.

I'm still disappointed that it's a home game.

Was hoping to get to this one since Northampton is just 110 odd miles from me.

Wife wont be happy if I trudge up to Liverpool every 2 weeks. ;D

If the powers that be give us Norwich away in the FA Cup I'll be over the moon.

Oh come on, even Pennant himself tried to use that to his advantage with the old bill ;D

What was the formation in the game?

4-4-2? or 4-2-3-1 with Eccleston leading the line by himself?

I don't get the Amoo/Lennon comparison at all. You want a Lennon like player look a few years younger and you'll see a lad called Sterling.

Good to hear Doc say something positive about Robinson. I think he could be knocking on the first team door in a couple of years as we know how hard it is to find good left sided players.

I had a hard time calling the formation because it is very fluid. 4-5-1, 4-1-4-1, 4-2-3-1 (?) with a pretty dynamic midfield 5. Suso wanders in a line along the pitch from centre circle to 18 yard box, sometimes receiving the ball off the back four, and sometimes behind the striker. Shelvey I suppose was usually sitting deepest and was the holding player, but also contributed to some attacking play and found himself in attacking positions. Ince is constantly looking to get forward, though if I had a criticism, too many midfielders are trying to create and not enough gambling on making runs into the box to get on the end of things.
