Liverpool related transfer speculation

Que? None of our starting midfielders came in last season.

Gravy came in 2023/4 but only became a starter this season otherwise was VERY lightly used.
Szobo came in 2023/4
Macca came in 2022/3

So effectively one per season.

You’re wrong there mate.

Slobbers, Macca, Gravy & Endo were all signed in the same transfer window.

Isn't it funny how last summer I was lambasted for mentioning the simple observation that we needed to get off our arses and sign at least 4 players to improve the squad and now after 3 windows of doing sweet fuck all we've come back round full circle and now every cunt here has finally come to their senses. Talk about the literal definition of fickle.

Hahahaha. The only Liverpool supporter who thought we might be better served not sitting out three transfer windows.

It's an honour to be replying to you. How does it work? Like are you the huffing gas type of oracle, or?

I think we’ve been very fortunate to have managers who were able to paper over the cracks for us—and FSG certainly took full advantage of that.

Kinda sick and tired of expressing the same views season in season out , I'mma just do what I am better at - cut and paste.

From 2023 thread titled "We are not" (https://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/threads/we-are-not.197723/#post-2248471)
(Fingers crossed, I hope point no. 3 of we are not, won't happen this season).

It was more of an indirect post towards Froggy and Stevie who have long held the belief that the squad was all happily and merrily set, but I do find it hysterical how now the problems in the squad are magnified, a few more are finding the balls to pipe up.

FSG, Edwards and Hughes are all cunts.....there isn't a limit to how many times this can be emphasized.

I’d keep Diaz, Salah Gakpo.

Nunez, Jota and Chiesa can go

Someone clearly didn’t do their homework on Chiesa - whatever it is could have been spotted. There’s a reason he cost a packet of tayto.

There’s such a thing as too much change in a squad. You can’t lose VVd and then bring in two new fullbacks too. I’d imagine one full back per season will be the goal no?

Who could've ever predicted we'd find ourselves in the situation now where we have both RB cover out injured for months as well as our starting RB to add to the crisis.

Been calling for Frimpong/Hakimi for the last 2 years. What are we doing here?

Been calling for a tough tackling DM since Hendo left because we knew Mac didn't have the skillset before finding out Grav couldn't do it all by himself after transitioning from an 8. What are we doing here? Why didn't our stupid, brainless hack of a sporting director go after another DM when he failed miserably to prize Zubimendi away from the mountains?

Same shit we've all had to deal with for the last 15 years. Nothing's changed. Zero future planning and everything lastminute.com. Make the most of this season chaps because it's likely the last of it's kind we'll be seeing for a long time.

I can't help but think that the person who claimed Nunez was already world class and was only going to get better, and then subjected the forum to consistent barrage of this utterly incorrect and silly opinion over the course of about 2 years, should be a little more reluctant to play the "I told you so card".

My only quibble with last summer was not doing something about a striker. Nunez had obviously failed, and Jota had become increasingly unreliable. I've been bleating about that for about a year so it's not just hindsight. I do think something could've been done there.

I think trying Grav at DM instead of Zubimendi showed admirable restraint and resourcefulness.

We’re top of the league by 15 points.

How is that not a sign we have a good squad?

We lose on penalties against a team widely regarded as one of the best and most infirm teams in Europe are you start bawling about not signing shit players who wouldn’t have made a difference again.

I can’t keep trying to get this into your thick little head - the likely reason we’re doing so well in the league is because we didn’t go out and make wholesale changes in the summer and instead went with a strong and settled squad that’s used to playing with each other.

The minute we decide to bring in loads of new players… we’ll drop back down from challenging.

I know your one track mind can’t see that - you likely still think Darwin is the answer to all our problems.

But this just makes binnys point. You're right, we don't want to make a whole heap of changes all at once.

But that is what not making those changes here and there and kicking the can down the road does. We will likely have to make a big change all at once. If we don't, our form will dip anyway.

Not in response to anyone in particular but I quoted/screenshot my past posts not to try and prove myself right in anyway, but rather, to prove I am not a knee jerker. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong by the club achieving success but as I mentioned, it's obvious we rode our luck in one way or another and/or had cracks papered over.

Since we finished with 97 and 99 points, repeated huge dip in league points wasn't coincidental.

20/21: "A tough period followed as Liverpool suffered a run of six consecutive defeats at Anfield. This ended any chance the team had of retaining the Premier League title as by early March, Liverpool sat 8th in the table with 43 points. The team, however, was fortunately able to reverse their fortunes, winning eight of their final ten league games, which included goalkeeper Alisson scoring a stoppage-time winner against West Bromwich Albion (the first goal ever scored by a Liverpool goalkeeper in the 129-year history of the club), meaning they finished third with 69 points, qualifying for the next season's UEFA Champions League"

22/23: Missed out on Champions League qualification. Furore of midfield signings - Macca, Endo, Szbo and Gravy in 23/24

It's great we didn't just fall apart but how confident can we be that such cycles are "sustainable"? We have also been helped by the fact that the other Big 6s have "self-sabotaged" somehow or rather, in recent years.

Frimpong looks set to leave Leverkusen this summer. 40 mill € release clause. We might go there and pair him with Bradley.

As sacrilegious as it sounds, I don’t agree with Binny 100% - I feel like Binny’s great talent for spotting and reporting on up and coming talent predisposes him to wants to sign more players.

My view is we have been adding to and refresh the team regularly and methodically over the last few years - we’ve refreshed both midfield and forward line in over the last few years by replacing stalwarts like Henderson, Fabinho, Firmino & Mane and there’s a whole host of good kids coming through to either move on for profit or integrate.l into the squad.

You could add future proofing the keeper position as well.

If there is an unexpected problem, it’s that Nunez has been disappointing and needs replacing, otherwise we’d likely be focusing solely on the defence as a rebuild.

You could also say the same about Chiesa, as he’s not provided the alternative to Salah that he was likely bought for.

A lot of what happens next depends on what the 3 out of contract players do - it’s safe to safe that Trent, Virgil & Salah aren’t players that are falling into the category of

We could be looking at a scenario of replacing Robbo, Endo & Darwin only.

A lot of the noise about transfers is just people wanting to unnecessarily move on players they personally don’t rate - Diaz, Konate, Jota, CJ, Harvey, even the likes of Gakpo & Dom haven’t been immune to desire to sell so as to justify buying.

I mean, there’s some justification for shifting some of those players - feels like a big decision on Jota might need to be made.

I think or strategy has been pretty good, to be honest - certainly not perfect and I can understand why, I just don’t think it’s as necessary as some posters like to make out.

You missed the fact that the 99 point 2019-2020 season was immediately preceded by a 95 point season and a transfer window when we only signed a second & third choice keeper.

Yeah, cos most of the players were below/just approaching 30 then.

2016- 2019 was a masterclass in strategic and opportunistic recruitment in combination with the highest level of coaching. We have not been at that level since then. It is one thing to be patient and wait for Allison and Van Dijk. I haven't seen the "if you wait, you will see the pieces of a larger plan coming together" since then. We have been too cautious, and unless the right player is available at the right price and wages, we're happy to kick the can down the road. Our inaction is a big part of the leverage Salah and van Dijk have.
