But this just makes binnys point. You're right, we don't want to make a whole heap of changes all at once.
But that is what not making those changes here and there and kicking the can down the road does. We will likely have to make a big change all at once. If we don't, our form will dip anyway.
As sacrilegious as it sounds, I don’t agree with Binny 100% - I feel like Binny’s great talent for spotting and reporting on up and coming talent predisposes him to wants to sign more players.
My view is we have been adding to and refresh the team regularly and methodically over the last few years - we’ve refreshed both midfield and forward line in over the last few years by replacing stalwarts like Henderson, Fabinho, Firmino & Mane and there’s a whole host of good kids coming through to either move on for profit or integrate.l into the squad.
You could add future proofing the keeper position as well.
If there is an unexpected problem, it’s that Nunez has been disappointing and needs replacing, otherwise we’d likely be focusing solely on the defence as a rebuild.
You could also say the same about Chiesa, as he’s not provided the alternative to Salah that he was likely bought for.
A lot of what happens next depends on what the 3 out of contract players do - it’s safe to safe that Trent, Virgil & Salah aren’t players that are falling into the category of
We could be looking at a scenario of replacing Robbo, Endo & Darwin only.
A lot of the noise about transfers is just people wanting to unnecessarily move on players they personally don’t rate - Diaz, Konate, Jota, CJ, Harvey, even the likes of Gakpo & Dom haven’t been immune to desire to sell so as to justify buying.
I mean, there’s some justification for shifting some of those players - feels like a big decision on Jota might need to be made.
I think or strategy has been pretty good, to be honest - certainly not perfect and I can understand why, I just don’t think it’s as necessary as some posters like to make out.
