Liverpool related transfer speculation

I sort of agree, but isn’t he a bit injury prone?

Averaged 43 games per season for Sociedad and played 40 games last season for Newcastle.
We have one of the best fitness teams around now so I don’t think it would be an issue.

Think he could end up at Arsenal though.

Sesko is probably still top of the list for me.

If we're still in a position to go for the league in January the board has to back Slot and get him whatever player he wants.

What if that player is Italian, likes mountains and his mammies titties, is 35, slow as fuck and dreams of playing for Man Utd?

@binomial - I said it before, but it still seems worthwhile for me to state again: I think that the data nerds saw that Klopp and the team regressed or underperformed in his last season - given the players qualities (plus the incredible team cohesion) that he had skillfully acquired. We were desperately unlucky on a few critical metrics (unbelievable ref decisions in league-defining matches, the total number of injuries to first team players, and the number of spurned xGs denied by the woodwork).

Ultimately meaning that huge investment was absolutely not necessary for us to remain a serious title contender this season.

It's time to let go of the idea that new player acqusitions equals success - quite clearly this is absolute fantasy. Manchester United are a shining example of how that approach is not the way. Our position in the league and champions league should give you a clue as to what now is a better operating model.

As long as you have your core group of world class players like Ali, Virg and even Mo then anything is possible. They were a huge part why we could compete last season and why we can go again this. That'll promise to change from next season if these players leave and no big investment comes in.

I guess my ick is until now we've neglected to do either.

The Hungarian team is shit - we have evidence of it already with the dissatisfaction that so many of you have expressed about Szobo. Why are we going after this player ? - is he a left back ?

They’re not facts, they’re your feelings on the matter., which are not based on fact.

The contract situation for Virgil, Mo and Trent are inherited, that’s a fact. If yiu want to ask serious questions, then why was Trent not tied up to a long term contract 2 years ago, same with Virgil and why was Mo’s extension only 3 years, why not a 5 year deal.

On top of that guys have to be stupid enough to believe all contract negotiations are straight forward - in some cases they are, but that’s usually younger players.

“Give him what he wants” is not a good negotiation tactic - that’s also a fact.

Also… and this may have escaped you… the fact the 3 have not signed a contract has not adversely affected either individual or team performances - so it begs the question, what difference does it make if they’ve signed or not signed at this moment in time, other than to satisfy your state of mind.

If Virgil & Mo want to stay, then they’ll be in no rush to sign a pre-contract in January and if Trent’s mind is fixed on a move, then there’s nothing much we could have likely done anyway, short of offering something crazy.

The Zubimendi deal isn’t really on us - he changed his mind after indicating he was interested.

It must just kill you that things are going so well.

If you look at Hughes's record over the last three years—he was involved in letting O'Neil go after a good season, appointed Iraola, and appointed Slott—he has gotten key decisions absolutely right. He will get a lot of leeway from the bosses if Slott and Iraola continue progressing.

In the 80s Scotland were shit when they had Hansen, Dalglish, souness, Nicol and Gillespie playing for them. Wales had Southall in goal, Mountfield and Ratcliffe at CB and Rush and Hughes up front. They got beat three nil by everyone. Both sides there had five of the best players in the world at the time. It makes no odds if the other six were shit.

I know - I knew as I was writing my post, but honestly why the fuck are we looking at a LB !!!! - I was just expressing my anger by having an illogical go at some player I have no idea about.

Ah they weren’t - they qualified for a few world cups in a row. Massive achievement no?

Scotland actually thought they had a chance of winning it in ‘78 and to be fair they had the team… except for a Keeper.

That fucked then up in ‘82 as well.

Alan Rough… and by fuck he was fucking rough!!!

You know you’re in trouble when you’re putting out a team with Hansen, McLeish, Miller, Strachan, McGrain, Souness, Dalglish, Jordan, Wark, Robertson, Provan, Archibald, Narey & Sturrock… and your keeper plays for Patrick Thistle!!!!

Kerkez is actually decent. Dom is proven, but for some reason he isn't slotting in to the new system
The issue for me is the price tag (on Kerkez), which is likely to be around £50m.
I like Maxim De Cuyper, probably would cost £20-25m

Should have played a young/old Jim Leighton in both.

I'm all for kerkez learning from Robbo, then to usurp over the summer (maybe sooner)
Is Robbo the kind who'd be fine being the back up?
Have a feeling that at some point he'd want to go finish his career at Celtic.

He probably will, but he might take competing for a place for a year and run a deal down. He'd still be the best full back in Scotland at 35

Don't underestimate them Scots they've got a few decent fullbacks in the pipe line. Hickey, Patterson....

The price for Kerkez isn't that wild when you think he's 21 and already playing to a very high level. In theory we already have our next RB (Bradley), next CB (Quansah) and next GK (maramarshmallowvi) already locked in so it's not like we need to save money on defence with these already in the ranks alongside a possible extension to Virg and a rejuvenated Konate.
