It's got nothing to do with Gerrard, and everything to do with not playing 3 lines. The flat-line 4-4-2 is fucking hideous and even mediocre sides like Villa can expose it.
Yesterday was the greatest example ever of why you simply must play at least 4 lines of players.
Yeah, what makes it worse is Rodgers talking about that role all week.
Gerrard would have done a much better job if he had Hendo/Allen infront of him in a midfield trio.
Yesterday he was left isolated and Villa pressured him constantly.
We were overrun and outnumbered and couldnt get out of our own half.
How Rodgers expected to win the game when we were losing the midfield battle so badly is strange.
I dont mind the experiment aslong as he learns from it.
We will play a 3 man midfield against Everton, and its beyond the point if Studge/Suarez is pushed out wide as they're always moving around. Fwiw I'd start Suarez wide left
