LFC v Chavski match thread

Can Rodgers please stop starting Gerrard? He should be bringing Gerrard on instead of that useless plodder Lambert.

It pains me to watch Gerrard like this. It pains me even more to see perfectly reasonable posters (looking at you Wiz) make a terrible case for him starting.

This has to stop....Can has showed today that Rodgers has three better options in Allen, Henderson and himself, that can start and provide better balance between midfield and attack.

This has to stop.
I'm curious as to what Allen or Hendo have done to deserve starting.
Allen has been bog average and Henderson deplorable. Injured or not (as others suggest) he couldn't defend, pass or attack against the Chavs.

Allen's had one or two decent performances, and unfortunately bog average gets you a place in our team just now anyway.

Have to agree about Henderson though. I still like him, but - like too many of his colleagues - his form's fallen down a pit too often this season.

Henderson wasn't as effective as usual against Chelsea. Maybe he is struggling to establish a partnership with Can. We certainly weren't getting enough players forward for our counter-attacks. Coutinho or Sterling usually found there weren't many options available.

Oh boo fucking hoo.
Probability, luck...defeatist bullshit.

Ok, then from now on I will look at us as a midtable team. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

It isn't about being defeatist. It's about knowing your football. It's about knowing your football team.

The table doesn't lie. We don't have a good team currently. Against the current best team in the land, we probably wasn't going to get anything.

It doesn't mean we didn't have hope before the match but anybody who knows their football would have have that hope tainted with realism.

I was watching the match with a friend. When Can scored, he said to me we need another one just to get a draw. That isn't being negative. That is knowing your football.

We really reminded me of England yesterday , blunt - spending most of our time passing the ball across the pitch with zero incision or guile with the occasional burst from a man in the middle and speculative 20 yarder.

Mignolet - good
Lovren - bang average
Johnson - pretty good
Moreno - pretty good

Henderson - anonymous - epitomized by tangling with Gerrard
Gerrard - average
Can - phenomenal work ethic in the first 45. Faded fast
Sterling - meh
Balotelli - meh
Coutinho- decent first 45 , soon faded.

Allen looked lively . Borini was meh.

I disagree that Johnson was pretty good. I thought he was poor as usual. As right back, where was he for Chelsea's second goal when Coutinho was standing in for him? Johnson is one of the prime culprits for losing possession. When he gets the ball, he usually gives it away in one way or another.

As much as I liked Can today, it was as if his presence left Hendo confused as to his role. They need to work on that pronto.

I think the simplest solution at the moment is to drop Henderson. He's been awful for a while now. I was strongly behind giving him the vice captaincy but since he got it he's played more like he did in his first year than the form he showed last year. I wonder if it's taking him a while to step into the new shoes and adjust to the weight of responsibility, just as it did when he arrived.

We were much more effective in the middle in Madrid without Gerrard there. I think that's more significant than any deemed failings of Henderson.

It's not either or both of them, it's the whole team.

Last season no-one knew what had hit them. Straight out the traps all ten outfield players were quicker to every fifty fifty, right up anyone's arse who had the ball or anyone who could be passed to. The pressing was team wide. Chelsea beat every man on our side for that yesterday. Outmuscled and out-thought in every way.

They knew the back four was too shit to pass itself out of trouble and Rodgers was too stubborn to let any of them boot it. At times you had Ivanovic at the edge of our penalty area when Ming had it as he knew there was no fucking way anyone was going to get the ball anywhere near Sterling.

Totally embarrassing.

Although as was demonstrated on "Match of the Day," we should have had two penalties for handballs by Chelsea defenders which I didn't see properly at the game.

But I agree that there was a major tactical failure when we sat back and started playing sideways after Can's goal, instead of pressing home our advantage.

Great idea to sell Agger

Fuck me that league table is a very depressing sight. Even Pardew's team are above us now. They were nearly bottom a few weeks ago.

He perpetually aggravated rather than discuss. Other people can discuss our mistakes in the transfer market, but Modo couldn't.

That's a bigger cop out than our transfer committee claiming to not be able to lure Alexis Sanchez because he wanted to live in London.

In your opinion

Modo was warned about his behaviour and he continued

The issue seems to be that you have one easily wound up poster on this forum, who can't ignore people as he's a moderator, so instead he verbally abuses them and whines until something happens, and all discussion comes to a grinding halt.

I'm not angry, I'm disappointed.
