..isn't going to be the next Liverpool-manager when/if Rafa leaves come Summer.

I understand a lot of posters reckons Mourinho to be the man to take us forward but at the same time they seem to reckon he's probably not going to be that interested himself for various reasons.

Who'd you then back us to be in for if you only had one shout?

Personally I've always had the utmost respect for Marcello Lippi. Not only did he do a massive job at Juve he also took the Italians to the WC-title whilst always managing to keep his feets on the ground. He seems like a top person really.

Capello's done a very good job with England so far hasn't he and as I reckon Lippi to be an even greater manager I think we'd be spoiled to have him. He could very well quit the Italin job after the WC and then who knows, if he's up for it we are hopefully looking his way.

Only thing working against Lippi is his age but 61 is the new 51 I'm told. Or something like that.

My choice:

With Lippi in charge we'd play even more defensive minded games than we are today.

Great manager, but I'm not to keen.

i'm quite fearful of this scenario. i think rafa staying would be best for the club if we don't get jose. at least rafa has accrued some sort of political clout at the club.

I've never really thought of Lippi as a defensive-minded manager to be honest. He's Italian alright and as such happy to field a solid defense, but otherwise I don't think so.

He's at least always made space and room for individuals like Baggio, Del Piero and Zidane to mention a few.

When Juve appointed him back in the mid 90's they had actually endured a barren spell of around ten years without winning the Scudetto and who knows maybe he could make us achieve something familiar even though our barren spell's been slightly more stubborn?

I am also fearful. I asked someone to put my mind at ease in another thread.

I'm personally not all against that but for me 4th is all that matters.

We all expected a title challenge - fair enough - that hasn't exactly been the case, but there's a long way from that to say ending up 5th or 6th in the League why I'd reckon we at least should be considering our options.

Lippi should be top of that list.

Khl was fucking quacking on about Mourinho being 'defensive' and 'rafa mark II' yesterday and demanding attacking football from the next manager

And today puts Lippi at the top of his list

And then wonders why nobody takes him seriously

There must be some kind of misunderstanding here?

Lippi's teams has played far more adventurous football over the years than Mourinhos. He's Italian and as such he keeps a strong defensive-line but having watched shitloads of Juves games back in the 90s with Baggio, an upcoming Del Piero and Zinedine Zidane I can assure you that they looked and played nothing like Mourinhos Inter or Chelsea.

Anyways I'm not that surprised you didn't know as it seems your knowledge about football is rather limited at times, at least when the talk falls on football outside the British Isles.

Mourinho is super defensive its true the only thing he has over Rafa at the minute is that he is not Rafa! he will not get 200M to spend and hey presto the league trophy appears.... fuck mourinho... he isn't coming anyway.

As for Lippi... don't know fuck all about him and don't care anyway... we either need a miracle worker or shit loads of cash neither of which is on the cards.

I really want rafa to stay (yeah yeah blah blah) but if he is given the boot I want someone with a view to long term and short term development.

long term
we aren't going to be buying the big stars anytime soon so we are going to have to develope our own.
use the CC to blood this kids rather than underachieveing dead wood, find out why the fuck the local talent has dried up or wants to play for everton.

short term
have a philosophy and stick to it, if results aren't going your way don't return to kick and rush, hoofball desparate football...unless your philosophy IS kick and rush, hoofball desparate football ha ha. buy players that can do a job TODAY with a view of moving them on when they have served their purpose, identify where we most need improvement and get the best available (with the money we have), forget about squad players a reserve member can pull up the slack.

where I think we most need improvement and the order I would buy them
LB
CF
LM

if we were to buy joe cole (free) bent (15m) and a left back. they would add squad depth (by pushing the current incumbent down the pecking order) and we would be better positioned to cope with injuries to gerrard and torres which has fucked us up this season.

the manager I want is rijkaard but he would have his own ideas of how he would set up the team and would probably not even look at the likes of bent and joe cole.

Good shout i guess considering the lack of viable alternatives Khl.

The problem as i see it, is that unless we some how manage to attract Fabio or Jose (neither are likely), i can't think of a replacement who'd tick all of the boxes.

If Rafa does leave then we're going to either be left with a 2nd rate British manager or a up-and-coming bloke with little experience.

Who are the 1st rate British managers that you'd consider, Rafa? I can think of only ome who'd not be moving to a bigger club if he joined LFC.

And just how many boxes does Rafa still tick?

This statement worries me, as the first manager that came into my head was Tony Mowbray (like to play attacking, flowing football but was too stupid to change that philosophy when it became quite obvious that West Brom couldn't win by using those tactics).

Lippi wasn't a bad suggestion; tho perhaps Michael Laudrup wasnt so hot.

I'd take either at the moment though.
