Leicester Post Game

I really like how we shut down their counterattacking game right from the go. We weren't afraid to take a few niggly little fouls to put the breaks on and I think that bit of cynicism has been missing a lot. We are often far too naive and let opponents play their game.

Was thrilled to see us battering Vardy about whenever the ball neared him. Think that went a long way towards wearing them out.

Yes, good point. Klopp clearly learned from the mistakes of the Watford game and this time we had a plan how to stop the opponent's counter-attacks. I really think that Watford defeat will prove incredibly useful in the long run, it exposed many problems that we as fans have known for years, but Klopp might not have fully appreciated until then.

A confident player scores that. The most important work that Klopp needs to do with Benteke is getting inside his head.

Super important win; now we are back in the top-4 conversation that we were in danger of dropping out of. 2 points behind United now and we are the first team who brought Leicester down to the ground a little bit. Onward and upward!

My ratings:

Mignolet 6.5 – made a great stop at a near post and a fairly routine on from Mahrez in the first half. Also composed with catching the ball. I wouldn't blame him for flapping at a corner, I think Lovren's touch took it away from him.
Clyne 6.5 – solid and hard-working as usual
Lovren 7.0 – overall very solid and starting to look like a leader, has he turned the corner? Bonus points for recovering from the injury so quickly and settling well in a less familiar RCB role.
Sakho 6.0 – much better than last game, but still some way off his best form. We all know how good he can be, the only question is are those injuries going to stop?
Moreno 6.0 – skinned cleanly by Mahrez at least 2 times, other than that OK.
Henderson 7.0 MOM – several absolutely sublime passes in midfield and what's especially pleasing is how quickly he makes those decisions, he seems to know what to do with the ball even before it comes to him. He learned it from Stevie, I'm sure. Too bad he didn't have the same composure in his 1 on 1, I thought he somehow was determined to pass even though it made more sense to accelerate and score. Still, he is some player and pretty much undroppable at this point.
Can 6.5 – combative, positive and saved a certain goal with his block near the end.
Lallana 6.5 – hard-working and elusive, back to his supporting player role that was effective against Man City. Just don't expect him to do all that and also score or create many goals.
Firmino 6.0 – his first full game as a Liverpool player, a game-winning assist and he always helped out on defense and pressing, even in the first half when most people said he was anonymous. Can do much more, but overall a positive step for him.
Coutinho 6.0 – maybe the birth of his first child affected his concentration; his instincts seems to be out of alignment at the moment. Tried hard, but more fussy than effective and you could see when he was coming off that he was far from satisfied.
Origi 6.5 – our best player along with Hendo until he was substituted. I told you guys not to give up on him early! Super potential and he'll be unplayable when he learns to convert chances better.
Benteke 5.5 – I had a positive feeling when he came on, I though he might convert one of the chances that maybe Origi might not and that's exactly what happened. But on the overall performance, he is clearly low on confidence and the comical miss at the end showed that. I think he's better than this performance; even early in his Liverpool career he had games when he was much more involved with flicks and passes, I think now he is still processing what Klopp is telling him to do and trying to readjust his game. His teammates also were not able (or willing) to adjust to a different type of striker coming on, several times Benteke got the pass that took him towards the wing – Origi would have turned the defender and crossed or cut in, but Benteke just looked surprised that he is asked to do something other than waiting for a cross inside the box.
Lucas, Allen n/a

Klopp 8.0 – ballsy team selection, of all the games to switch to a more attacking 4-2-3-1 formation he chose one against the league leaders. Let's see if it's there to stay, Hendo and Can look like a good budding midfield partnership, but you need a good level of defensive contribution from the front 4 to make it work and if Origi is injured that's difficult to achieve.
Rurik, IMHO, overall those marks are far too low. Though I can see from the 'Likes' that I'm going to be in the minority here. We were playing the league leaders, who have lost just once in the PL all season, forget the badge on their shirts, after a couple of horrendous recent performances from us. And we dominated them right from the start with some superb performances in defence, closing down, our passing was ace most of the game, we nullified the two hottest forwards in the PL and in the end we deserved to have that second. 25 shots to 7. Agreed we should have put more away but it was still an excellent team performance and the marks should reflect that.

Ming - 6.5
Moreno - 7.5
Lovren - 8.5
Sakho - 6.5
Clyne - 7.5
Henderson - 7.5
Can - 6.5
Lallana - 7.5
Firmino - 6
Coutinho - 6
Origi - 7
Benteke - 6

Lovren's best game by a mile. He looked every inch the 20m defender for once.

9.5/10 for me...

A deserved win, but the lack of goals when we are in control was worrying. Klopp picked almost the right team, dropping Lucas at last, but Firmino shouldn't have started either, because he's shit too.

Really odd that we can look so aggressive in one game,a nod then look lathargic a

Mignolet (7) made one great save in the first half from Mahrez and was far better than he has been lately. Clean sheet too

Clyne (7) still needs to do work on his crossing and decision-making in the opposition half. Solid as ever in his own.

Sakho (6) a massive improvement from his comedy show performance against Watford. Needs to show more consistency

Lovren (7) one or two 'Lovren' moments but overall one of our best players on the day. Hope he can keep this up. Doubt it, but let's see.

Moreno (6) got turned inside out once or twice, but he's a real asset with his pace and aggression

Henderson (7) some great passing and energy, he makes the midfield much better when he plays

Can (6) did pretty well, but still makes too many poor decisions at times.

Coutinho (6) not as his best, but still one of our better players and a threat running with the ball

Firmino (5) much better than he has been in most of his games for Liverpool. Average and not good enough to play in our strongest XI

Lallana (6) usual industry, usual lack of end product, usual lack of goals.

Origi (6) looked quite threatening before going off injured. Not enough of a threat or clinical enough to play regularly for us

Subs: Bentek (6) should have started, as nobody else apart from Coutinho carries any goal threat whatsoever. Scored a decent goal, missed a howler. Should play next game instead of the awful Firmino

Good performance, should had won by more but I'll take that.

Firmino was poor first half but better in the second half, needs to up his work rate at least assisted in the goal.

Lallana was extremely wasteful again today, needs to be pulled. Yes he runs but pointlessly and goes nowhere nor does he create anything and for god sake someone tell him to pass the fucking ball instead of taking fifty touches and then Losing the ball.

Thought lovren, can and hendo we're all very good.

I'm glad the pressing returned, but I don't think that was a good performance. Pretty much no clear cut chances as usual.
I thought lovren was very good
Sakho and accident waiting to happen
Hendo full of graft and no actual technical productivity
Origi looking like zero goal threat but plenty of work
Benteke, oh my fucking days what was he playing at with that miss, useless

On the positive it's a great win, and at home!! Onwards and upwards and hopefully the pressing is back to stay

Yep. A 5 for Firmino after that game. Agenda much.
Its important to have a good moan, even after a win.....

I said he was hugely improved from his usual level, which has been totally shite. Credit to him, really. 5 is fair, it was pretty average.

No agenda at all, I just don't rate him on the evidence so far.

It's your right, but once again: 3/4 successful tackles from the #10 position, 3/4 successful take-ons, 3 chances created, assist for the winning goal (a real assist, not one of those cheap ones), highest passing % among all front 6 – that's a 5/10 performance? Fine, but then hold other players to the same standard.

Superb win, Vardy was rubbish but then I'm surprised he played with a fever.

What an incredible miss by Benteke
