Rafa turned down RM offer of both RvN & VdV on loan.
If thats true, hes a fucking Jeb.
Or constrained by the already hefty wage bill.
Na. He turned down loan offers for about 4 players. We could easily have got one of them in if it was true.
No need to get our Knicks in a twist though. Its cleary made up.
Judging by how tight we're being with transfers this year I wouldn't be surprised if the purse strings won't even stretch enough for a loan signings wages and fee.

I wonder if the Mancs are keeping that £80m in their back pocket, in which case they will spend it next year or the year after when the right player becomes available (and Real and Barce already have full squads) or whether the Glazers are using it to pay off debts.

Well we won't know for a good while, until the accounts for this year come out in about 18 months time. But I'd be amazed ifa big chunk of that hasn't gone on debts.

off track record they have consistently made money available to their manager

The Glazers have been no more forthcoming with money than our own Yanks.

All I can really be bothered to say is bugger.

Oh well, at least I saw Orbital completely off my tits on Sunday

*blows raspberry*

Kranjcar's a fine player and £2-3M will be deal of the summer

Where's he gone?!

Tight Ross? I'm not sure about that. We've spent about 35mill on two players, and signed up Rafa/Agger/Gerrard/Torres - I bet that's about another 10mill in signing on fees :s

A huge opportunity missed.

At least every single Liverpool fan now should be fully aware of what type of owners we have.
Yep.. and Gerrard and Carra aren't getting any younger either.. and with Citeh on the up, and soon to be pushing for a CL spot, this could conceivably be our best chance of winning it (possibly missed) for the next 5-10years. Time will tell, but I can't help but feel we'll be talking about this missed opportunity much like we talk about the one under Houllier 5/6years ago.
LAST season was our best chance in the past 20 years, mate... If a chance has been missed here, it was last season, not this summer.
In what way did we miss out last season ?

Did we spend 20m on a shit striker or something ?
In the "we should have won the league but pissed it away with insane team selections and tactics and internal pissing contests while leading it" way, mate.

As you well know...

Everyone agrees that we messed up last summer (thats a given), but it's equally clear that we've missed a huge opportunity again this summer too (for different reasons).

If Rafa had been allowed to sign just one more quality player, we'd be in a much stronger position, yet instead our lying bastard owners have decided it's in "our" better interests to make a profit.
Its not last summer we fucked it. It was on the pitch. It was taking off a striker for Lucas at 0-0, it was leaving Keane out when he was confident after a brace, it was playing Kuyt when he was off form badly...etc...etc Rafa cost us the title last year, not just in summer but in Autumn too.
I don't buy that at all Oncy, I think Rafa did an excellent job last season.

Personally i think if anything cost us, it was the lack of experience of being in a title race more than anything else.
So, he was right to take off a striker for Lucas in a game where we desperately needed a goal, was he?

He should have taken Stevie G off when we had 8 minutes to find a winner against Wigan, should he?

He was correct in playing for a draw against ten man, Cesc-less Arsenal with 30 minutes left, was he?

He did the right thing, dropping Keane just as he's gotten 3 goals in 2 games and was starting to look like he had a little confidence about him, did he?

Rafa is the reason we finished 2nd place last season.

You think that he deserves emmense credit for that.

I think he deserves some credit for that. But also critisism.

Because we should have won the league.

what whaddaple said. oh and the tantrum over keane with the 'i never wanted him, the club bought him' bollocks.

Rafa cost us the title?
Daft.
I think he did too.

Between the lost opportunities in the transfer market during the summer and the barmy decisions listed above I think there's reason enough to blame him.

Rafa's team selection / decision making / pissing contest with Parry cost us at least four points last season, yes.

Do any of our Mods not hate Rafa?

I'm aware one of our departing ones wasn't that fussed like.

But how many points did Rafa win us? Did we get to 2nd place despite Rafa?
Is that what you're saying?
Jeeez...

I don't hate him, Doc.

I'm just not blind to his faults, and though eternally grateful for the glory he has brought us, I will not allow those triumphs to cloud my judgement on his more recent performances.

Hmmm.. This is all a bit daft really, yeah I do think he cost us points, what manager doesn't make mistakes over the course of a season? All these comments are conveniently failing to address the face that he bridged a big fucking gap last season from the one before.

We lost two league games all season.

I'm not saying he didn't fuck up, the transfer window especially was disastrous, but he made us into a contender last season and in other year we could have won the league with that kind of form and points haul.

Lots, mate.

We didn't get 2nd in spite of him. He was the reason for our much improved season in 08/09. And he deserves credit for that.

However, he's also the reason that our much improved season didn't end in the ultimate glory. And he deserves critisism for that.

I've said it one million time on this site. He's an outstanding manager, and has proved this many times.

But he's also a stubborn bastard who will subject LFC to his will, regardless of whether or not it's best for the team and he he proved this many times too.

Like last season.

Rafa isn't the reason we lost the league.

The lack of Stevie & Nando playing time was.

In ANOTHER year..?

How about LAST year, Mark? We should have won the league LAST YEAR.

You acknowledge that he f#$!ed up. And I acknowledge that he's turned us from a ridiculous shadow of a former superpower into a force again.

But I will take to the grave that while improving us last season, he also simultaniously cost us the title.

The players that we had available over the course of the season could have won the league if Rafa had used them differently in various stages of the campaign.

I truly don't think that bit is correct, old friend. Clearly not all Rafa's decisions have been the right ones but I don't believe he'd take, let alone implement, any of them without honestly being of the view that they were in the club's best interests.

How? He masterminded BIG results last season against the top sides, we lost two games all season, the good more than outweighed the bad, we made great strides in the league as a side and probably played the best football in the league.

We lost the league via many things, not just his decisions. We lost Torres and Stevie for large chunks of the season and without a real quality recognised striker to fall back on we finished 2nd.

I'll be the first to point out his many flaws, but criticising last season because of mistakes during games that you could probably count three fingers is bordering on absurd.
