we needed a right back, excellent
we needed to keep our midfield, too early to tell although it would have been good for his replacement to be fit - for now fail
we needed left sided forward - fail
we needed a striker - voronin....fail

johnson alone is better than last year with keane, doseena, degen, shite keeper costing over 30 million
You keep saying 'shite keeper' about Cavalieri, even though he looks a very capable stand in. Degen also cost nothing. Keane and Dossena....yeah.
degen didn't cost nothing. signing on fee was several million.

we signed shite keeper without getting rid of previous shite keeper surely that is bad business.
You've pulled 'several million' out yer arse, but im not suprised, it fits your drivel.
And we had a SHITE keeper so we got a good one. Would you rather have kept Itjande as our back up? Yeah course you would. Pleb.

Degens signing on fee was 8.2 million.

Troo fact.

A huge opportunity missed.

At least every single Liverpool fan now should be fully aware of what type of owners we have.
Yep.. and Gerrard and Carra aren't getting any younger either.. and with Citeh on the up, and soon to be pushing for a CL spot, this could conceivably be our best chance of winning it (possibly missed) for the next 5-10years. Time will tell, but I can't help but feel we'll be talking about this missed opportunity much like we talk about the one under Houllier 5/6years ago.
LAST season was our best chance in the past 20 years, mate... If a chance has been missed here, it was last season, not this summer.
Everyone agrees that we messed up last summer (thats a given), but it's equally clear that we've missed a huge opportunity again this summer too (for different reasons).

If Rafa had been allowed to sign just one more quality player, we'd be in a much stronger position, yet instead our lying bastard owners have decided it's in "our" best interests to make a profit in this summers transfer window.

It's hard for me to class this summer as a huge opportunity, when we all knew all along that we'd not be getting any cash to improve the squad...

An opportunity is having the chance to do something good and pissing it away. We never had the chance this summer.
Its not last summer we fucked it. It was on the pitch. It was taking off a striker for Lucas at 0-0, it was leaving Keane out when he was confident after a brace, it was playing Kuyt when he was off form badly...etc...etc Rafa cost us the title last year, not just in summer but in Autumn too.

If you're looking at it that way then fair enough mate.

You must be in the minority on here though, because i think most people thought we'd at least get the usual amount to spend.

Not happy.

We needed a striker or an AM to be bought really badly.

We will need to blood some youngster now. Not a bad thing, if Rafa knew anything about doing something like that.

That was the shittest transfer window ever.
Happy to see none of the other contenders strengthen of course, no Robinho, Arshavin, Berbatovs this year which is good.
Just imagine what we could have done if we had had our usual 20M plus anything raised from sales.
I think we've done ok.
Arbeloa out Johnson in A+
Alonso out Aquilani in A (for me anyway) if only he was fit.
Hyppia out Zorba in B (a bit meh)
Yes. But imagine what we could have done with another 40M !
Yeah i know but we've signed 2 x 20m players to add to what we have.
Reina 20m
Mascherano 20m
Johnson 20m
Aquilani 20m
Gerrard 20m+
Torres 20m
we used to look at United and marvel at their 20m stars. Well over half our team are 20m players now.
Compare that to-
dudek
riise
carragher
hyppia
Finnan
hamman
gerrard
kewell
smicer
baros
cisse
and its clear to see weve come along way in terms of playing staff. The yanks have also been forced to pay 40m more off the debt this summer so were closer to being debt free.
United sold an 80m player and spent 18m the difference being their squad was better to start with. Of course it may not be enough but its not an awful summer.
Yes, I've got that. But I think Ibromurph has said exactly what I am feeling. Had we had the budget we were supposed to have this window (and I have no doubt that Rafa would have had assurances the money would be there before he signed his extension) then even the bookies would have us as favourites now and Davis Silva and another top striker would be gracing our squad.

*sighs* *weeps* *sticks pins into Gillett & Hicks dolls*
REALLY?! you suprise me!

Riera is only keeping Silva out of the Spanish team because Silva was injured and hadn't recovered his match fitness - otherwise no contest.

It's that one striker I'm especially worried about - Torres to go a full season without injury ? 100-1
And for that injury not to cost us points 500 - 1
And for those points not to cost us the title ? 1,000 - 1

Kuyt into the centre, Johnson into RW and Kelly / Darby / Degen at RB is the best we can do in that scenario. And to think Mickey was 'free'.

Let's not go there again Rafa4PM. You will only turn the board against you again - and that just after your full rehabilitation and reintegration has been completed !
Pacheco plays like Silva...doesn't he?

May be we should just use him, if we are that desperate.
Exactmundo.
For fucking years ive been saying lay off the shite signings, sign big first team players, and supplement our first team with youth. And here it is. My dream realised.
Our first team of-
reina
aurelio
agger
carra
johnson
aquilani
mascherano
gerrard
riera
kuyt
torres
is as good if not better than any other team. Our bench-
n'gog
babel
dossena
insua
voronin
benayoun
degen
lucas
is pretty wank, so lets see these Kellys, dalle Vale, Pacheco, Nemeth, El zhar, Spearings step up.
If only to cover injury etc. Of which we'll have little hopefully.
Its a great first team. Lets worry about our ressies as and when we need to.

We move to 4-4-2 with benayoun right and Kuyt and Voronin/Pacheco/Ngog up front. I agree i wish we'd got Tuncay.

And to think, if Parry and Moores had heard of the Internet they could have googled Hicks and found out what a sneaky, two-faced, lying fecker he was. The ineptitude of Moores and Parry has crippled this club.
Yup. And it baffles me to this day that they're still given the "oh, but they meant well and ya'know, hindsight is 20-20" treatment. Fuck that.

Last summer was a massive opportunity for us and I truly believe that had we have not gotten it so horribly wrong, we'd have won the title. This summer was our chance to rectify those mistakes and so it becomes "opportunity missed #2".

I like the optimism and bravado of Oncey's posts but I can't quite get myself to feel the same way. The squad just doesn't fill me with that level of confidence. We can do this year, of course we can, but we're going to need a few helping hands from lady luck and to start playing with sort of passion we showed towards the tail end of last season much much earlier.

I think the lack of experience was a key factor last season, and if me saying it will turn the board against me, then so be it.

In what way did we miss out last season ?

Did we spend 20m on a shit striker or something ?

we needed a right back, excellent
we needed to keep our midfield, too early to tell although it would have been good for his replacement to be fit - for now fail
we needed left sided forward - fail
we needed a striker - voronin....fail

johnson alone is better than last year with keane, doseena, degen, shite keeper costing over 30 million

Troo fact.

i unlike rage, only make up statistics 14.2% of the time.
For the sake of it. Degen got a 2m signing on fee, 2m a year wages.

10m on a full back that probably won't ever start and certainly won't ever finish a game for our first team.

Let's not go there again Rafa4PM. You will only turn the board against you again - and that just after your full rehabilitation and reintegration has been completed !
Cheers for the advice Froggy, but i think i'll choose to ignore it anyway.

I think the lack of experience was a key factor last season, and if me saying it will turn the board against me, then fuck you all.
;D

Sorry I can't go with you on that one - I was a vociferous Rafa out lobbyist, as you may well remember, after the initial maybe 65% of last season, until our 2nd half of the season run that is. Which is why I think in the end he deserved another chance. However IMO it was Rafa's ineptitude over cautious nature, rather than the players' inexperience, that cost us the title last season.

I hope the last 25 - 35% of last season has changed Rafa's attitude in that regard. When he had no choice but to really go for it we were brilliant.

Our views are never going to coincide on this.

last seasons transfer window had nothing to do with missing out due to lack of money.

this season without a doubt to do with lack of money and an inability to move on the likes of doseena and voronin. i don't think anyone in their right mind would be in for babel, lucas or degen unless it was loan/free or next to nothing
