Klopp's approach to squad building

Everyone seems to think that's done either way.

And @Roopy posted this in the goaly thread last night:

Roma need to sell players due to not meeting Financial Fair Play requirements.

Selling Dzeko & Palmieri will be sufficient for them to now meet these requirements.

They will not sell Allison this window.

Dzeko (32 I believe) will be sold to Chelsea for 20-25M, along with Palmieri - will also be sold to Chelsea for 20M, who they bought for 400k, but has missed a large chunk of the last 12 months due to a serious knee injury.

I mean, if all that happens then we should just steam in and get him.

The only roadblock to Dzeko moving to Chelsea is the uncertainty of Conte's tenure.

Roma are ready to sell - an agreement between the clubs seems to be in place - but Dzeko is taking a risk here if he does agree to the move as Conte is almost certainly in his final season at the club.

Who knows who will come in and next ... and Dzeko could find himself on the outer under a new manager.

He's playing in the shortterm though in terms of contracts. He's 32, so a 6 month deal back into England can then lead to one of the middle tier clubs taking him and him still picking up a wedge. Spurs are interested also.

A 6 month deal? Who the fuck would sign that?

He's got a deal with Roma until 2021. He wants the Chelsea deal to be the same length. Chelsea don't offer more than one year deals (or extensions) for players over 30, so their compromise offer is until 2020, but at higher wages.

That's the negotiation sticking point, and it has zero to do with Conte's position as manager.

Yeah. The position of every single Chelsea manager is going to be uncertain. They don't keep managers that long, doesn't matter who it is. Their recruitment/retention of players is almost unconnected to who the manager is.

From what I'm reading Dzeko wants a 4 year contract and Chelsea have offered him that.

He is definitely a good fit for Chelsea - the only issue here is the uncertainty of Conte's tenure.

I think the move will happen though - Roma will force it through. They won't win Serie A this season and I'm sure Monchi has a replacement lined up for next season.

I've only seen him play once since he went to Roma, but he seemed a good player when he played for the Arabs and I like him. I wish we'd buy him.

From what I’ve read its also a sticking point in regards to the contract. Chelsea wont give that sort of contract length to a player past 32 (in March).
Only 12 month contracts is the club policy.

Go have a word with yourself.
Serious question @juniormember - given that the short term ramifications of selling Coutinho are, from a footballing perspective, universally negative and illogical:

1) We are not nailed on for a top four finish
2) We are in the CL knockout stages, in a world cup year
3) Coutinho still had 4 years left on his contract and is CL cup tied
4) Barcelona is winning La Liga with or without him
5) Everyone now knows we are cash rich, and that we roll over to player demands

Do you think that we had a robust plan for reinforcement when we sold Coutinho? If so, why was this not solidified before selling him? We had since the summer to identify and prep targets. Or does it seem more likely, given the evidence, that the owners just saw an opportunity to make $$$ and took it?

Sure - we might spend some money in the summer, we always do - but why give up on this season? Because that's what selling Coutinho without a replacement represents to me. Capitulation. On several levels.

EDIT: Just to be transparent - I love Klopp as much as you do. Wouldn't change the manager for anyone else right now. But the club just seems to be in a perpetual two-steps forward, two-steps back situation, when we all feel that we are so close to being something special.

I imagine Coutinho went into an almighty strop in Jan and basically left Klopp and co with no choice but to get rid. I totally agree we should have had someone lined up.
I’m telling you to go have a word with yourself for agreeing with everything Mark says. Now THAT’s crazy.

I knew you meant Mark!

Still, it did sort of expand the discussion, if if your response suggested you weren't much interested in it. Silly Dirty Sanchez.

I know right! Scared the right bejesus out of meself. It's okay though I'm coming back to my senses.

That's what I said. I said do that rather than chase billions, soz if not clear. Ski instructors do tend to be very happy. Every wealthy dude I meet lately is a miserable twat.
Cause he knows the ski instructor is banging his wife when she jets off for a weekend's skiing and apres ski ...
