Anyone watch this?

Just watched it, found it really enjoyable too. Think Vieira comes across really well, seems a decent guy. Don't think Keane does too badly out of it either, but I really liked Vieira after watching that.

Fucking Lauren over Lee Dixon & Neville mind you. Get a grip.

Haven't watched all of it - but it was a very good show. I know Keane has pissed off the Irish, but he also comes as a guy you want to go to war too. Had we got him instead of Manure, history would have been different.

Do they mention anything about Stevie?

Nope, nothing about Gerrard.

I know people will (rightly) bang on about Keane being a bit of a cock, but I think it gets forgotten how good a player he was.

He was a fucking colossus. In the top 3 footballers I've seen in my lifetime I'd say. He had everything.

Yup ... Listen, a lot of the great players are cocks ... It's part of what makes them great - it's part of what makes them who they are.

Keane was just a fantastic midfielder - and I don't think Gerrard ever got the better of him, and that is saying a lot.

lol at ITV trying to get Giggs included in Keane's team.

I think the only player ever to absolutely own Gerrard in his prime was Viera - That 2001 cup final. He himself admitted it in his book I think. I'll watch this tomorrow. Thanks for posting it up Ryan.

I watched it last night and felt for poor Gary Neville. First of all, how on earth did Lauren get into that team ahead of him? Then Roy Keane claiming Vieira was picking on the weak having a go at Neville that time in the tunnel. FUCKING LOL.

He did eventually coming into the last couple of years of keane's career at manure. I remember on particular game at anfield where gerrard owned him. He never owned Vieira though.

Was a great watch, they both came across very well, they mentioned you don't see that sort of rivalry anymore and you dont which is shit really, if only our midfield had someone of their ilk.

Bergkamp should of been the first name on that combined teamsheet.

Yep agreed on Bergkamp, he is up there with the very best of players who have played in the premier league. He also happens to my all time favorite non lfc player....

Annyhoo...I think comparing Gerrard against Vieira and Keane is not really a like for like comparison.

Keane and Vieira were great at establishing control in midfield and winning the midfield battle. Gerrard was more likely to have an impact on the overall game more. As a box-to-box midfielder with a tremendous end product Gerrard was peerless. If you put the job description up like that, then you would be mad to pick Keane or Vieira over Gerrard. Gerrard was an immense athlete at his peak and it allowed him to be Scholes and Keane or Lampard and Xabi Alonso, as he pleased to chose within minutes. Ballack is the player that i think was most similar to Gerrard in style, but Gerrard was much ahead of Ballack as a player, but behind him in trophies.

BothKeane and Vieira had the luxury of playing in sides with multiple players who could change the direction of the game decisively at will. Henry, Bergkamp, Pires for Vieira and Giggs, Solskjaer, Beckham, Scholes etc for Keane. We have on the contrary for the majority of the last 15 years been a 1+1 side....Gerrard + Owen, Gerrard + Torres etc. For a brief period When Gerrard, Xabi, Torres were supported well by Kuyt and Riera (not world beaters mind you, but they weren't piss poor as was usually the case), we got a mini glimpse at what could have been....not many teams could stay with us. Gerrard got a standing ovation at bernabeu. Now Keane and Vieira could repeat their career all over one more time, but they wont capture the imagination of an opposition team fans like how Gerrard managed. Only some elite players can achieve that, and for me Keane and Vieira are not among those players.

Keane is the best all round player I've seen in my time watching English football.

He had everything you could want in a midfielder and a captain.

Some of the games between Arsenal and Utd were sheer brilliance. The Fa Cup Semi Final was superb to watch (shame Bergkamp missed that peno)

I think you are being unfair on Keane who in his Forrest days and early Utd days was every bit the box to box player until he was instructed to change his style.

I saw Keane live more than once in his Forest days and he was indeed absolutely everywhere, box-to-box plus, almost goal line to goal line. I don't think kj was being unfair though. IMO, once Keane had changed in the way you describe, he would have found it hard to go back to his old box-to-box style and perform as well as he had previously.

The toughness point interests me, especially when you have Keane saying he didn't think Vieira was as tough as he (Keane) was. Even in his Forest days my impression was that Keane was more of an assassin than a warrior, a lot keener (no pun intended) on kicking players from the side or even the back than he was about crunching into a block tackle from the front, whereas Vieira would do whichever was needed at the time. In a hard but fair 50-50 my money would be on Vieira every time.

Neither would have lasted the 90 minutes. Either would have been carried off about 5 minutes after he kicked Souness for the first time.

I'd say Keane was better than Souness in the air, but otherwise Souness' all-round game would have overshadowed either of theirs as you say.

Souness would have battered both of them even if they were playing in the same team.
Keane's the better out of him and Viera though.

Keane was a thug. He was very good but there's some overboard hype going on in this thread.

Same about Viera. Decent player but I'd have Gerrard or Alonso ahead of him anytime.

Vieira was "decent"?? Ahahaha!!!

He was a brilliant footballer in his time, beast of a player.

I liked the one word answer Vieira gave when asked what set him apart when he was young from all the other talented youngsters...

Heart.

How many of our players can you say has 100% genuine heart, passion, will to win, fight etc?...

Gerrard used to, only Suarez really.

That documentary should be used as an educational video for young players to drill into them what it takes to be a winner.

Another thing what Vieira said about why Arsenal haven't won anything for ages, the lack of leaders in their squad, just confirms what a fair few knew anyway tbh.

It really can't be stated enough how important it is to have those strong personalities in you team, something again we have lacked for many a year bar the odd exceptions here and there which have coincided with some success for us.

You don't have to like a player to appreciate how good he is.
