As for the others, he was certainly less culpable than the defenders in front of him, but he shows no instinct to move at all. Zero. He just stands on his line and watches the ball go in. Not even a good attempt at it. I think if he showed some positive reaction and nearly got to it then I’d be satisfied, but he was rooted to the spot. Obviously not the whole picture - but he must have the worst shots on target to goals ratio in the worlds top leagues. He’s shite.

Apart from the clear fuck up giving them their first goal, there were a couple of occasions with easy saves/stops/catches to make and he made them look as though they were special by diving like a fucking divvy.

His distribution was also dangerous on a couple of occasions too, rolling the ball out to players who are clearly involved in being pressed by dangerously talented opponents.

He has had a number of games now and MAYBE he will play himself into being a good goaly one day but at the same time right now he simply is not suitably good enough, it's true that he carries himself with more confidence than Mignolet and he hasn't dropped clangers as often to petrify the crowd as regularly as Mig but.... Nah... at the minute he simply isn't good enough.

IF FSG have 146M sitting in the bank then I hope we have a decent Goaly at the very top of our shopping list.

The shot came at lightening pace so I don't know many keepers that would have got to it but ya we still need a new keeper even though some claimed at the tail end of last season it wasn't a priority.

It's not about "getting to it" Pat, it's about basic goalkeeping, which from that angle with Sane is about covering your near post so it isn't even an option. One of the basics of goalkeeping is narrowing the angle. From where he was, he had it all to do to put it in the far corner.

All keepers make mistakes, but you balance it out with how many times your keeper saves your team and keeps you in games or even wins you points. I can't recall any of that from Karius. It's a daft point to say they all make mistakes. It's like saying all strikers miss chances. Yeah they do, but some of them score bucket loads of goals too, so it's ok. See Salah and Andy Cole.

I don't think it's that, I think it's easier to focus on where we can improve, than equally stating the obvious by discussing how good Mane or Salah are again (which people did anyway, tbf). I mean there's a wonderful upbeat thread discussing the rise and recent performances of Robertson and the same people have contributed to both.

I do get that some of the criticism goes overboard to such a degree that it sounds like doom and gloom, but people generally say it as it is when it comes to our players.

Many of us have our reservations over Gini, opinion on him is always fairly divisive, but I think everyone unanimously applauded his performance yesterday. It's only really your Modo's who stick to their set in stone opinions regardless of performance.

He is a decent shot stopper, but if Klopp has decided he is not the way forward I agree in leaving him on the bench for the rest of the season. This must be the 3rd, 4th or 5th time he was lost his place, and none of the ones given a try has been convincing. However, loosing your spot that many times is bad enough itself.

I agree, I'm not disputing that or putting up a longterm case for Mignolet. He's gone and he can have no complaints. Give Karius until the end of the season now.

It seems odd that Ward would be offered the number two spot for next season, that's either assuming that Karius will be number one, or he will be gone. If it's the former, then Klopp seems to be having alot of faith in a player who has so far failed to live upto expectations, if it's the latter then it seems odd to give him a go now when he won't be here next season. If Ward really is number two, and we're likely to buy a top class keeper, then why not give Ward the nod now? He'll either prove himself and we might not need to buy, or at least he will get some much needed first team performances under his belt, ahead of being an understudy/cup game keeper next season.

Personally i don't like rotating keepers for cup competitions but quite a few teams do it nowadays. I could understand if it was to keep a really good quality back up keeper happy but what does that matter if both keepers are second rate as I think ours are.

We don’t know what instructions are given to him. Maybe he was ordered to come out, potential mistake or not, for every single cross that comes within the 6 yard box? Or other similar small but important bits, which he continually didn’t do?
Doesn’t have to be the most obvious of mistakes, which makes the camel’s back expression pretty apt actually.

It's most strange. Lots of people seem to be suggesting that Klopp has finally FINALLY realised that Mignolet isn't good enough, and that Karius will be given a proper run in the team with a view to making the Number One spot his own, and Mignolet shipped out in summer.

As you say, I'm bemused as to what particular incident caused this volte-face, and even more confused as to what makes Klopp thinks Karius is better, because he isn't.

I think the Arsenal howler was just the drop for Klopp. And with playing him a few games more he kind of shows he doesn't drop him based on one mistake but as a result of his desicion for how he wants the team to look next year and after. Mind you if Karius was brilliant then Ming would not be number 1 in the first place so it is not too easy call. I am sure there have been a lot of discussions and analysis in the coaching team... Ming has appr 1 save per goal. Not sure what Karius stat is, but yesterday 3 of 4 shots on target went in.

Yeah, if anything, it just shows a lack of faith in each. If we're to stick with Karius to the end of the season, let's stick with him till then, and pray for De Gea type turn around in performance.
