Rovers know they are in danger of losing Hoilett for just a compensation fee in the summer but, having seen Manchester City awarded in the region of £4m for Daniel Sturridge’s move to Chelsea, Kean insists waiting for the summer is a possibility.
He said: “Junior has shown little signs that he might be wanting to sit down and talk again, there was a meeting with his father and one of the club directors last week.
“We are trying to get it done. There have been offers sitting there for him and when it gets to a position when a player has six months left it is his prerogative to either sit his contract out, leave that offer there and have a sniff elsewhere.
“In hindsight, it was 18 months ago when the contract was being signed that has put us in this position. I would look back on that and say that should certainly have been longer.
“It all depends on what the offers are for him. If it is a small offer, we know what type of compensation has been there for Sturridge in the past before. It depends and you have to weigh that up.
“Also for the player, if somebody bids for him he might not want to go to that club. He might want to sit out the last part of his contract here and see what opens up for him.
“I can understand why people might think we are trying to sell him on but we are not, we would like him to sign again.”
