Ha, I like Mourinho, even if he is a bitter cunt. You've got admire his honesty and self-confidence.
no i haven't. he's a boring prick, and i don't know what's honest about claiming we were in continual decline under benitez.
This.
We played our best football in 2008/9. How can it be continual decline?
He has a point regarding success though doesn't he?

Champions League in 2005, FA Cup in 2006 then 4 seasons of winning nothing at all but at least qualifying for the CL then culminating in a final season where we won nothing, went out of all competitions very early on and finished in 7th!

Actually if you look at our record in Europe that has been a fairly steady decline

2005 - CL winners
2006 - out in 1st CL knockout round (put that down to a blip, move on)
2007 - CL losing finalists
2008 - CL Semi Final
2009 - CL Quarter Final
2010 - CL Group stage
2011 - Europa League

Can you do a similar for the PL with points achieved?
Points?

Premier League finishing places would be better, Mike.
Points and places in the PL will give a more complete picture as majority of people here seems to gun for the PL rather than the CL as some told him to go after winning the CL too!
Why? Who cares? We've won fuck all in 5 years. What's the point of trawling over the detail? Only losers would think that 83 points or whatever is successful compared to 79 points. The 'we had our best points finish' argument is such a fucking hand wringing losers mantra. Great we got a million points....we won nothing.
Plus mourinho is a cunt. Who cares what he says. Fucking translator.

This was also in the interview, wonder why?

He said: “Manchester United would be a great challenge for me. But Liverpool is not the club for me. I know why, but I cannot tell you.

“Tottenham, Everton... Arsenal maybe. These are all fine clubs with very good managers.

“You can dream of what happens in one, two, three or four years. Who knows? I cannot say, but I think you have an idea of what I think about.

That's the point.

The points we got last year might have made us champions in 75 or something.

But who gives a shit.

I think he means everyone bar us would agree with what he said, which is bollocks anyway as I know plenty of objective blues that would read that and say he's just being a bitter cunt.

Rafa did a lot of strange things since he arrived. He got some reslts back from it, but he made some strategic moves who led to us declining as a team.

The first thing he did was ripping the team of all form of pace replacing it with different skills. Discuss the Baros and Cisses etc not being tactical or lack attitude or whatever we describe them as, but they had a vision of goals, and a wish of putting the box under pressure. Rafa decided that this was not an important factor for his team. He wanted an allround team where everyone should score few goals. The changes here (Morientes and Crouch in) had a major impact on the team and led to a temporary decline of the team.

His strategy of getting rid of Alonso to get more power in the centre paid only half of. He got rid of Alonso. By that we also lost the only person who could dictate our game by long range passing. However as he allready had removed everyone interesting in putting defendinglines under pressure (Luis/Kewell/Babel) he was probably fine with Lucas in central instead of Barry.

Rafas focus was to close down opposition. He would sacrifise everything for just closing them down all over the pitch. Collective pressure with two guys pressing the guy on the ball at all times. This strategy requires a special type of players, and Rafa is very good at emplying this (Thats wy he wants i.e. Mascher and Kuyt). But for a coach with slightly different ideas who get stuck with slow players good at closing down opposition.

The points we got in 2009 would have got us kicked out of the league for cheating in '75! It was 2 points for a win then.

But yes, totally agree. I couldn't care less how many points we achieved each year, how many goals we scored or how our standard of football apparently improved.

The only thing that matters is actually winning trophies. 2005 - done. 2006 - done. 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 - all failed.

I actually care about the points we finish up with each season. You see, when we were allowed to have such ambitions, the only trophy I wanted was the league title to the exclusion of the others (though being the Champions of Europe again would be nice). So the points total gave me an idea if we are making progress or not.

But yes, now that our ambitions are much much lower than that, the Carling Cup would be nice and if we win it, some can deem the season as being successful. Yay!

Mourinho: I could never work for Liverpool

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho says he would never consider managing Liverpool.

Liverpool can forget about ever luring Jose Mourinho to Anfield.

He told the Mirror: “Manchester United would be a great challenge for me.

“I had a dream about being the manager of Real Madrid. It has come true. For me that is incredible.â€

Re: Jose Mourinho: Liverpool were in terminal decline under Rafael Benítez

Because we favoured Benitez over Mourinho?

Is that even true?

Woah, he mentioned Everton and Spurs ahead of us ... yah, we've slipped.

I believe it is true that he expressed an interest in the LFC job after GH left, and that we acknowledged but didn't pursue it. I doubt that's the reason, though, especially since it was Moores and Parry who made that call and the pair of them have gone now.

More than one Manc I know reckon Mourinho's nailed on to succeed Ginsoak when the time comes. That would explain this all right.

Yeah, I've thought that for a while.

Hopefully we won't last as long as Sir Alex or I'll be long gone by the time I see Liverpool lift a title.

"Its okay, I can go to Liverpool now - Hicks and Gillett would never disrespect me like Moores and Parry did!" Hmmmmm................

Real Madrid have said today that the interview with Mourinho didn't happen...

Ben Smith:
Real Madrid say that The Mirror's huge interview with Mourinho today is false. They say there has been no interview.

You can criticise Rafa for a lot of things, but selling dumb and dumber (Cisse) should be well down that list.

Depends on what or who you replace it with. He replaced it with Mrientes and Crouch and stuck to the two no matter what and we was out of everything around xmas. Shortly after Morientes was gone, and a year later it was the same for Crouch. Do I have to mention that Crouch went appr 20 games with no goals in the start of his Pool career as well.

IOk he scored in the 21st, so Rafa was proven right (to himself) that it was smart to field him in theosse games, but still our team turned to slow as fuck upfront.

Yup.

We signed Morientes when Cisse was out with that horrific injury. We were relying on the likes of Baros, Mellor, Pongolle before that.

Also Milan Baros had his best ever Season for goalscoring when he was under Rafa's management, by ONE goal 🙂
