Thought it's about time this thread was created. It's well known on here, much to my detriment, that I'm one of the three Henderson fans on this board, he's never been spectacular but he's solid, hard-working and brings stability, a stability we've been lacking this season. Every game he's played this season he's looked great, he's kept the midfield sturdy and ticking, he's stopped teams running right through us, last night showed just how well he does that.

I'm not saying he should be starting on Sunday, although there is a very good argument for it, however he's a fantastic option to have in squad, and I'm very glad we have him. He deserves some love, he's very much the Lucas of 2009, underrated but great.

Good game last night, and there is definately a footballer in there. He lacks a little bit of Jonjo's madness though 😉

He's an odd-looking cove - he runs like someone who's been rebuilt in the dark - but he's certainly improving and did a decent job last night.

Said previously, defensive midfield would suit him.

Good engine, decent passing and sticks his foot in.

Played well last night and is a solid squad player. but i wouldn't put him in the starting 11 if everyone was fit.

In my books he's cover for Lucas, he'd be great in a Allen, Henderson, Sahin midfield mind.

The thing is not everyone is fit and we're shitting goals. Should he start in the Lucas position and allow allen to move further forward?

We don't even need him as a deep laying midfielder imo. Allen works great picking the ball up from the back, Henderson should be there moving forward to support attacks and dropping back to cover Allen when need be, not sitting as a defensive midfielder as such, pretty much how he played last night. He keeps it simple and is effective at stopping the opposition, also he seems to be a much better tackler this season too, not afraid to slide in.

I know you're a big fan of his and all, but personally i think that allen is the better of the two playing further forward, that's allen's proper position. So i'd rather henderson just protecting the defence as we leak so many goals as it is. Basically being a backup to lucas when he's not fit.

You're probably right, I'd still like to see Allen being the man dropping back and taking the ball from the defenders and starting the play. Maybe have him playing the more free role, almost like how Pirlo plays, and then have Henderson there providing the defensive presence.

Allen is doing well there but that's not his position, he'll play further forward as soon as we have someone competent to do that role.

I'm sure Allen and Henderson used to play rugby, scared to death of the forward pass.

Henderson knocked a couple of good balls forward yesterday. I'd just been moaning that he was kicking the ball back to whoever had given it to him when he received the ball, turned and switched play. About eight seconds later we'd scored. If he can show awareness then maybe there is a player in there - so often he looks like he can only deal with a very narrow bit of vision but last night he started looking up and playing positive. Long may it continue.

When everyone is fit, he's about 5th or 6th in the pecking order for a start in the midfield, and we know he's pants out wide. I'd be pleased if we could just flog him.
He was ok last night, not great, not poor. We need players better than that. And at the moment we're in desperate need of a DM whilst Lucas is out, and Henderson is far from being one of those.

Where's Momo Sissoko nowadays? Sit him in front of the back four and let Allen/Sahin/Gerrard etc do their thing in midfield.

His thing? Booting it straight up in the air and running into the crowd?

To call Momo shit is an insult to Henderson.

How's that Victor Wanyama lad at Celtic? Keep reading he's boss. Anyone seen enough of him?

Remember when he went from terrible to enormobollocks and they started blaming ramadan?

Can't ramadan subscribers go on a drip or something?

PSG. He seems to be blighted by injuries fairly often, playing maybe just about 18 to 25 league games every season since leaving us for Juve and then PSG.

No problem with him being 5th or 6th. That is a good squad. No reason to flog him. If the others had a 6th choice 21 year old dynamic strong CM who already had played in the Euros we would be jealous.

People forget how young Henderson is. He was utilised very badly last season, thrown persistently into a position that isnt he's strongest. Right now he looks like a very good understudy to a very good midfield. Kennys first team signings, with the exception of Suarez were massively shit. Coatez and Henderson have to be seen as ones for the future. But still, already theyre knocking on the door in this new system. Its different for Sterling and Suso as they have been given free reign to take on those in front of them. Henderson has had to re-adapt, he's never really had a place here. Yet!! His passing game is enough for him to stay here and evolve. Never mind his fee, whats done is done. I rate Cleverly very highly and I reckon our Jordan, with the right coaching, will be far better than him. Whether he has a place here after that is up to him! I do expect him to grow though!
