Re: Cole set to sign

a step up on benayoun if he stays more or less uninjured, which he probably won't.

definitely good news on balance, though, if true.

Re: Cole set to sign

Well only time will tell, but for a 'free' I think he is a good signing. Proven quality, won medals for years, can play RM LM or in the hole.
Yes his signing on fee will be a big chunk, and his injury record is not great recently. In 3 years time, he will either be a total let down (Kewell) or an excellent addition for nothing (Gary Mac). I am hopeful.

Not massively keen

Sounds like so many of our desperate 'just what we need' players who want massive wages, are often injured, and best years are behind them
While there is some truth to that (this signing really does remind me of Kewell's, albeit Harry was several years younger and, at the time, didn't seem as injury-prone), I think in the current circumstances you have to take it as a massive confidence boost for Liverpool. Joe Cole could easily sign for a club in the CL if he wanted to. I'm sure his signing, if it happens, will impress and excite Gerrard and Torres, as well as us supporters, and send out the message that we're not quite the sinking ship that we're made out to be at the moment.

Joe Cole is still an excellent footballer and provided he stays fit, there's no reason to assume he can't return to his best. What's more, I suspect he's precisely the calibre of player we need if we're to convince the likes of Torres and Gerrard that it's worth sticking around. .

Re: Cole set to sign

could be a fantastic signing for us, it is also a relatively prestigious one . I would be happy

I'm not so sure that he is a step up from Benayoun. I've never been a fan of Joe Cole, but he is English and we need more homegrown players for the new regulations and he's free.

He's better than Casper

Thats why im happy he is better than a large chunk of our squad.

Don't know about that. He's a real talented player. Doesn't get dispossessed much these days, he's a lot smarter on the pitch than he was a few years back, and he's without doubt the most skillful player on the ball that we'll have in our team.
You know what, as disappointing as Harry Kewell was after his first season, I'd still rather have had him over the last few years on the left than Aurelio, Yossi, Babel, Riera, Maxi, etc. Because everything about Kewell as a player was a step above those that replaced him, excluding perhaps Yossi's goal count.
I feel the same kind of way about Cole. He's a step above those he'll replace, and even if he's past his best (I'm hopeful he's not), that fact will still remain.
I'm quite excited about this signing if it's true.

Agree with that Bunnyman, but still not dancing with joy for some reason
Because it would suggest you were wrong about Hodgson, Broughton, the club being doomed and pretty much everything else?

I'd be happy to see him on the left, or if Dirk follows Rafa to Inter, on the right, obviously.

because you are in a miserable mood and wouldn't even be happy if we unveiled Fabregas as a signing tomorrow.

He's been wrong plenty - he just is less wrong than all of us.

Re: Cole set to sign

If there are any chances of Torres and Gerrard leaving, this is a pretty good signal of the clubs intent and also it's ability to attract decent players despite our drop from the CL and top 4.

Great player too, if we can keep him fit - time for this aussie big shot Doctor/physio to step up to the mark

I bet Fabio got the looks as well.

Re: Cole set to sign

Cole always struck me as a bit of a cunt albeit a talented one.

That would certainly show Roy's intent and would provide a massive boost to the club and us ailing supporters.

Re: Cole set to sign

Many people concluded that our lack of Squad depth was a reason for us not having a good season last year.

Many say that our first eleven is a match for any team in Europe.

Believing all that, i think we would have done very well to pick up two very useful players for the squad at a relatively cheap price.

Mark, Radio City can be trusted or not?
'ish' mate, I got a text saying about it, that he's held talks with Hodgson and is expected to sign in the next 24 hours, and then someone else mentioned that it had been reported on City. Don't know how reliable or true it is, but thought it was worth passing on.

For the reasons a few have given, like intent and it's effect on Gerrard and Torres, I hope it's true.

Re: Cole set to sign

What exactly is his injury history?

Is it a particular thing reoccurring - breaks, ligaments, strains or something?

You really do need to cheer up a little Brendan. I know it's hard but at least try

Re: Cole set to sign

Cheers for the info Mark.

A couple of seasons ago I would have been over the moon at the signing of Joe Cole but I am a tad concerned now about the effect his injuries may have on his form.
Would have been a better buy than Keane at the time but then he is not exactly on his own in that catogery.

Hopefully his recent spate of injuries haven't taken too much of a toll on him and he can regain the form that made him a top player a couple of seasons ago

It's remarkable how fast driving becomes completely natural.

Also, Titanic is aces. Last time I watched it was in Amsterdam, tripping on psychedelic truffles. I'm not sure I've ever been so emotionally invested in a movie.

Try watching Yellow Submarine on three really strong blotters.

"EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee . . . it's the Blue Meanies!! That glove thing is fucking terrifying!!"

*curls up in foetal position rocking furiously*

"Ahhhhhhhh . . . it's all okay, The Beatles are here and they're singing a song just for me!"

*rocks more serenely*
