Football365:

COLE TO EARN BIG AT LIVERPOOL
Betting was suspended on Joe Cole joining Liverpool on Saturday afternoon and the bookies are often a better indication of what's going on than the tabloids. In this instance, the bookies and the tabloids concur with the News of the World claiming that Cole could be about to sign a £90,000-a-week deal with the Reds.

It would be a hell of a coup for Roy Hodgson, who did a good job of appearing bemused at the rumours on Saturday.

what we DO know as facts

* the owners have lied in the past
* last season all the money from sales wasn't reinvested back into the team
* given the list of candidate of managers linked to liverpool, the board didn't go with the best man or the job - actually scratch that, that's an opinion.
So you're in the "wait and see" camp and the "hysterical conspiracy theory" and the "doom and gloom" and the "woe is me I'm an LFC fan" camps?

That's a lot of campness...
What are you going on about? The first two points are facts, not opinion
Well, apart from the fact that the money from Xabi and Arbeloa was spent on Aqualani and Johnson, and the Greek cost them a little bit more, yes you're exactly right.

It is a *fact* that the money raised from transfers wasn't put back into the squad, just - y'know - one of those facts that happens to be completely inaccurate is all.

cf Dr Fox: "Genetically paedophiles have more genes in common with a crab than they do with you and me. Now *that* is scientific FACT - there's no real evidence for it, but it *is* scientific fact"

So what happened to the 20m transfer budget Cecil promised?

Oh yeah. He was lying.
When did he promise this? I can't recall him coming out and saying this.

EDIT: Found it.

9. The fans remain unconvinced about the new method of valuing our transfer budget by including wages and new contract deals within it – reports suggest that despite the two current sales that have gone through the Manager will not receive even the sale proceeds to reinvest in this transfer window – is it fair for us to assume that sale proceeds from the Summer transfer window, this and the future window will to some significant extent be used to reduce the Club’s borrowings? If not can we expect sale proceeds plus what you described as “the usual £20m†to be spent in the Summer?

CP - The reduction of debt does not affect player sales as there is a separate player account and money does not come from this for anything else.

So, you haven't actually thought about the possibilty that Roy isn't telling everything to the media?
He doesn't have to tell us that he and Joe Cole have had lenghty discussions does he? They had a chat, fine. Could mean anything.

I logged on 3 hours ago, and you're still at it with the power struggle and other conspiracy theories. It's like the bloody Falcon Crest on here!!

Start talking about something else eh? Is he signing or what?

Been informed that Joe Cole is in Switzerland ahead of a medical which should see him signing for #LFC.

Bit premature to suggest he was lying over that isn't it?
Most clubs are only now beginning to contact transfer targets after the world cup and players/agents on holiday.

I think Brendan is referring to last summer's transfer budget.

I don't see a promise of 20m to spend in that answer.

A journalist who also posts on Scouser Tommy.

No, the promise was made before he was obliged to give that answer

Do keep up, Cecil
Evidence ?

Ross, you're barking up the wrong tree here. Purslow did say there would be 'the usual £20m' for player costs. What he omitted to mention, until later, was that this figure included wages and renewed contracts.

Ross barks up the wrong tree about 99 times out of 100, which is why he is a rubbish solicitor
And how would you know that, exactly?

I can find the Daily Star saying it.

I can't find Purslow saying it

Would the anti Roy posters prefer that he spout to all and sundry about Liverpool's transfer plans or keep his cards close to his chest until targets have signed on the dotted line. To avoid the badgering questions from the press regarding possible transfers, it might be wise for Roy to refer the journalists to a club official who doesn't make himself available for press conferences to avoid screwing up ongoing negotiations.

Oh, wait...

Does anyone remember when we were chasing the Title the season before last and needed Utd to drop points?

Remember the amount of abuse Fulham manager Hodgson took on this forum for telling the press that he didn't have much hope against his friend Fergie's team before handing them a sound beating?

Poor bemused Roy hasn't a clue, eh?

So anyways, it looks like Joe Cole might be joining us after all. If this happens and for the reported 90k deal, we've done pretty well. It's not top whack these days and if things don't quite work out there will always be clubs who will gladly take him off our hands.

Yeah. As long as he doesn't turn into a Harry Kewell-esque injury nightmare, this looks - if it happens - like being a very good deal.

Well done 'Cecil'.

Ha.

Well he's certainly got the ability, so we've just got to hope and pray that he can stay fit i guess.

If he hasn't signed by wednesday 12pm I'm getting a slap up meal and wine bought for me. Can't they hold it off 48 hours?

Seriously good news.

I look forward to some more free transfer targets
Oh dear. Is that 'Cecil''s fault too? If Rafa had managed to sign current England internationals on Bosmans, rather than Zenden/Degen/Voronin, I don't think the words 'free transfer' would have quite the same ring of doom as they do at the moment.

Joe Cole is *exactly* the kind of player we should be signing.
