Yes, because I don’t constantly wang on about players I don’t rate as highly as others - and I don’t say dumb things like “Joe Gomez is no better than Dejan Lovren”

Gomez is 24... younger than Nate Phillips, 6 months older than Ben White, younger than Stones, Mings, Maitland-Niles, et al and you’ll struggle to find many, or even any CB’s in the Premier League Under the age of 25 that are as a good.

You can expand that search if you want.

You’ll definitely not find any that have won the things he’s won - and remember he was Van Dijks most regular partner the year we wine the league and had the best defensive record in the league.

Van Dijk, Matip & Lovren were not at a top team at his age, challenging for a starting position.

Is he better than Matip? Nope, but he’s faster and if he gets consistent games without injury he’s the ability to be an excellent CB. He’s also young enjoy to improve, whereas Matip isn’t.

Is he any good at RB? Nope - but neither are any of our other CB’s.

Does he have flaws - absolutely - but the things he lacks are the things you generally get better at over time playing frequently against top players and his skill base means his ceiling is high. You can’t teach the pace he has.

Are there better CB’s - absolutely... but Dejan Lovren definitely isn’t one of them.

He’s also seems a very Level-headed young player, not prone to the flashy excesses some of his contemporaries are, or also is be to huff about not being a guaranteed starter or feel like he needs special treatment or - he looks like the sort of kid that’ll work hard to earn his position.

I hope we have more players like him.

To use a technical term, in this case, your opinion sucks balls...

Big hairy ones.

If you want people to take you seriously stop saying dumbass things - because with the frequency you wang on about Gomez being rubbish it’s as if you’re trying to provoke a reaction for shits & giggles - Which is fine, but don’t cry when you get the piss ripped out of you.

Gomez has undoubtedly been hindered because he has missed something like four years of professional football in his six and a half years as a professional. That is fucking outrageous and to be honest, the fact that he has been able to come back to any sort of decent level is testament to the lad. I cant imagine where he would be if he injury record was 'normal.'

Joel is ace. I love the guy, he is probably my favourite player.

Just because you chose not to "constantly wang on" about players you do not rate do not mean others have to do the same.

It is not his age or how many games missed that let him down. It is his Jugdement, lack of concentration, and positioning that is the problem.

He, or We are just lucky that his speed enable to recover most of the time.
Should you every chose to "Wang On" about a player or players you do not like. Feel free

The crucial word here is "constantly". It isn't the fact that you don't rate Gomez that's the problem - it's the fact that you bring it up time, and time, and time, and time, and time again. Take an hour off FFS.

Maybe the reason why I bring it up so often is that we should cash in on him and move him on for the reasons I stated earlier, and his on going injury record..
It was not to long ago that people here where claiming that Gomez and VVD were the first choice pairring, then he was third choice and now with Konate arrival he is regarded by a few here as 4th choice CB, 5th if you are a fan of Philips.

I believe that we could safely move him on, Spurs Arsenal, West Ham maybe and invest that money in a better CB or somewhere else in the team.

I have tried to awnser and explain my opinions to most who have challenged them, but I feel that this is taking up to much of the conversation here, as this is meant to be about Matip.

If anybody chooses to reply;Fine, but I will not.

Gomez was always going to struggle, if he had come back from injury earlier than the other 2 then it’s a different situation….they al l came back around same time and it was clear Virgil and Matip would be the starting duo….Matip is better than him and for now he needs to accept being a squad player.

It's interesting to watch their interaction as Matip never replies or reacts in any way. I don't get the impression that this is anything personal between him and Virgil. The way it looks to me is that Matip's probably like that with everybody, the "strong silent type", and that Virgil's not used to not getting a reaction from others, so he takes Matip's reticence as a bit of a challenge.
