A day and a half later, and I'm still making no apologies for it... If you don't rate Dirk Kuyt, you know nothing about football.
blah blah x 100

Who doesn't rate him? Some of us, who aren't blessed with your divinely gifted knowledge of football, don't think players who struggle for long periods of time deserve to be guaranteed a starting spot unless they're Stevie or Fernando. You probably wanted him to start every league game for the period of 12 months he couldn't buy a league goal? Oh right, next excuse. You take your argument to an extreme because he's a player you've backed non-stop and he HAS become one of our most valuable players. So be it. But go on, he doesn't have poor spells. He's our bestest player ever and let's all sing kumbaya.
Remeber the arse-raping Insua got in Fiorentina, because Benayoun the supposed left-winger left him horribly exposed?
HA HA ... you serious? Everyone and their mother knows that Benayoun is absolute shit on the left wing. I'd rather have, and I'm being honest here, you or Aurelio or Kuyt or even Lucas on the LW than him. In fact, better to go with 10 players ...

I'm still trying to figure out what the poblem is.
He has periods of poor form, and we should overall be looking at better strikers.
This much has not been denied.
But whilst your point about 'strikers only score goals' being important; you are still underestimating the value he can bring to the team, especially in a team which is so pitifully short of leaders.
Ideally, I'd prefer a better quality striker and a RW in a 4-4-2 formation; bt in a 4-2-3-1 I dont think we'd do much better than Chunk.
I will admit it tho; I love Dirk Kuyt.
I am biased; this was a man who risked running a boat aground to get closer to 15,000 fans he'd nevr seen before or ever would again lining a sun-scorched river-bank in Singapore because he thought we deserved to see our team a little bit closer in the flesh.
And whilst it isn't important in the grand scheme of things, i won't ever forget that.
He isn't undroppable, but there's a lot of names I'd rather see drop-kicked into the Mersey before seeing his name struck off the team-sheet.
