He's one of the best, most important players in our side, and plays every single week for a very good reason.
Thats more an indictment of our style/recruitment poilcy under Rafa then it is an example of his abilities. I like Kuyt, its impossible not to, hes just that sort of player. But really best right midfielder in the league? this is getting out of hand, nothing wrong with supporting our players God knows some of them get too much stick as it is however the Dirk love fest is over the top in my opnion. Hes 30 this season and his sell on value will drop rapidly, if hes still an undroppable player next year then I think its a poor reflection on the state of the squad

This pic shows him at his best I think, like he is to lead these bunch of wimps (bar Mascher of course) into battle, I wana liken him to leonidas or Maximus Meridius.
It was the same when he wheeled away barging Neville out of the way and pointing at Gerrard (I assume) and making sure all were involved in the celebrations.

And you just KNOW, if you met him he would be so fucking nice you'd want to be adopted by him and have fish and chips on Friday at his house.

I agree with you about his professionalism, top class. But when he's bad he's horrid and should be benched. It's easy to lavish praise now he is back in form but when the next rut rolls around and his form drops to the levels it has in the past then he shouldn't play.

I rate Kuyt, he is more than worthy of the shirt. He gives us his all and no one can question that. But sometimes his best isn't good enough.

A day and a half later, and I'm still making no apologies for it... If you don't rate Dirk Kuyt, you know nothing about football.

blah blah x 100
Who doesn't rate him? Some of us, who aren't blessed with your divinely gifted knowledge of football, don't think players who struggle for long periods of time deserve to be guaranteed a starting spot unless they're Stevie or Fernando. You probably wanted him to start every league game for the period of 12 months he couldn't buy a league goal? Oh right, next excuse. You take your argument to an extreme because he's a player you've backed non-stop and he HAS become one of our most valuable players. So be it. But go on, he doesn't have poor spells. He's our bestest player ever and let's all sing kumbaya.

Remeber the arse-raping Insua got in Fiorentina, because Benayoun the supposed left-winger left him horribly exposed?

HA HA ... you serious? Everyone and their mother knows that Benayoun is absolute shit on the left wing. I'd rather have, and I'm being honest here, you or Aurelio or Kuyt or even Lucas on the LW than him. In fact, better to go with 10 players ... 😉

wow, what a dirk love fest.

where is Brenden?

On this one player both our doyens' opinions have merged.

horray.

I'm still trying to figure out what the poblem is.

He has periods of poor form, and we should overall be looking at better strikers.

This much has not been denied.

But whilst your point about 'strikers only score goals' being important; you are still underestimating the value he can bring to the team, especially in a team which is so pitifully short of leaders.

Ideally, I'd prefer a better quality striker and a RW in a 4-4-2 formation; bt in a 4-2-3-1 I dont think we'd do much better than Chunk.

I will admit it tho; I love Dirk Kuyt.

I am biased; this was a man who risked running a boat aground to get closer to 15,000 fans he'd nevr seen before or ever would again lining a sun-scorched river-bank in Singapore because he thought we deserved to see our team a little bit closer in the flesh.

And whilst it isn't important in the grand scheme of things, i won't ever forget that.

He isn't undroppable, but there's a lot of names I'd rather see drop-kicked into the Mersey before seeing his name struck off the team-sheet.

Kuyt is a special player. 4 goals in 4 games says it all. Having said that i agree that he should be on the bench last couple of months when he was average.

Avvy - I think you and I (and even Glock!) are probably on the same page here. I think during his poor bouts of form, Kuyt doesn't need to start EVERY game. Me saying that does NOT mean he's shit or doesn't deserve to play for Liverpool. It means sometimes a player should be benched for a game, or two, when he's in poor form. He's obviously earned his right to start most games for us.

LOL.

But when one as opposite as Ryan (where views on Lucas especially) agrees with you, it is a cause for celebrations surely. You two together may celebrate by putting to sword all those anti Kuyt ignoramus here in one fell swoop!

But reading Ryan's usal tedious, pointless, self-congratulatory chalk-board wanking about Dirk on this thread is almost as embarassing as the anti-Kuyt weapons falling over themselves to try and cover their tracks and claim they never said he was "fucking shit" really.

I've always said Kuyt was a good player, and I usually have him in my "ideal starting XI". Because he is a good player. And alwasy has been.

That's about all there is to say about him and his role in the team.

He's far more 'moderate' - for example, Lucas isn't a 'great' player but judging by your comments, one would think he's Salif Diao. Ryan, though at times he exaggerates, will at least let an objective reader see there is a player who's better than Salif Diao. I guess you guys balance each other out very well at times.
kuyt is a goal away from the magic double figure in the league but for me the question is what has more value someone who scores 10 goals or someone with the ability to create 20 goals? no one is going to argue that kuyt is a good player but kuyt isn't a great player and season after season he has a drought and then plays himself into form because he is given the oppertunity to play himself into form because he is never dropped. hooray for kuyt but what happens to us during that drought? what happens to the squad players who feel they wont be given a run regardless of form because someone isn't dropped regardless of form.

kuyt is the embodiment of rafa, the personification of rafa
tireless dedication, non stop work ethich a deep love of the club, good, at times excellent, doing just enough to maintain his place but never really truly enough to make himself great.
The perfect post...... !

How many players are there that deliver 20 assists a season? And when playing with Torres Dirk does rack up a good number of assists.

All Liverpool fans have their favourite players, and deep-seated dislikes of other players, which, despite a moderate (or otherwise) approach will rear their ugly head intermittently.

Some vacillate wildly with their opinons calling the same player a "cunt" one week, and "legend" a few weeks later. Others are prejudiced for very different reasons. Some hold views on players that are inviolate, and will not change.

Ryan, for all this "moderation" you talk about, will take any opportunity to snipe at Mascherano and Agger among others, and seems to have inexplicable soft spots for twats like Insua and Lucas who aren't good enough to play for Liverpool, while the aforementioned two players quite clearly are good enough.

It's very strange.

I don't really get involved in lengthy debates defending other players I rate that "split" opinion (ie Dirk Kuyt) because there's no real point in debating about whether a player who is obviously good, might actually be "shit" with people who know fuck all.

I seriously don't want people to get the impression I don't like kuyt, kuyt is a good player there is no arguement there. kuyt was is the ideal person to play in front of johnson, a fullback capable of getting a sea of assists. no, my problem is with him playing his way back into form on the pitch, so in essense I have no problem with kuyt at all my problem is with rafa for playing him during those slumps.

also ryan said kuyt has a good first touch, er, no he doesn't.

ryan is still aboard the lucas bandwagon despite lucas getting worse rather than better. that kind of unconditional loyalty has to be admired.
