How many players are there that deliver 20 assists a season? And when playing with Torres Dirk does rack up a good number of assists.
I seriously don't want people to get the impression I don't like kuyt, kuyt is a good player there is no arguement there. kuyt was is the ideal person to play in front of johnson, a fullback capable of getting a sea of assists. no, my problem is with him playing his way back into form on the pitch, so in essense I have no problem with kuyt at all my problem is with rafa for playing him during those slumps.

also ryan said kuyt has a good first touch, er, no he doesn't.
Dirk does have occasional good first touch. consistency is what he lacks. One very good touch was when he pull down a 50 yard cross field pass at the edge of the box. Unfortunately it was Babel (I think who was in support) who could not make much out of it.

Lucas is not "getting worse".

That simply is not true.
how is getting better? is he becoming more of an influence in the game (despite mash being the out and out holding midfielder). insua and lucas are getting worse and thinking about what the slick one touch passing of arsenal will do to the pair of them is giving me nightmares.

I think people are better served praising the attributes he has rather than defending the attributes he doesn't have. kuyt having a poor first touch isn't the end of the world especially when he makes up for it in other areas.

When we bought Dirk Kuyt from Feyenoord, the opinion of the Feyenoord fans was that he is a great player, but mentioned as an afterthought that his first touch was crap.

Dirk's first touch is crap, and I would question whether his advocates like Brendan have never groaned when a pass to Dirk on the right has gone out for a throw-in. However, no player is perfect in every respect and I think Dirk's work rate, commitment to the club and big heart compensate for his deficiencies.

if you are a lucas or a insua fan then more power to you you are of course entitled to your opinion. I personally don't think they are liverpool quality but rafa obviously have a lot of faith in both of them so I wish them the very best of luck after all their misfortune is liverpool's misfortune.

I think a big reason rafa moved kuyt into a wide position is because out wide his poor first touch wont be exposed where as if you play through the middle if you don't control and shield the ball first time a defender will nick it off your toe before you can blink

That's got nothing to do with your original comment though Neil, you said he's getting worse, which he clearly isn't. Whether you think he's Liverpool quality is irrelevant to what themn was taking issue with.

Whether or not I'm a Lucas or Insua fan or, indeed, believe either to be of sufficient quality to grace our first team is not the argument.

I like Dirk Kuyt and think he is a top player his qualities are extraordinary and he should be played for them. Other people may think otherwise but personally i am a fan.

okay, with lucas and masher both of their passing seems to be getting more erratic and with insua he seems to getting dragged out of position more easily. I seem to remember lucas making more runs into the box in his first season (for instance his everton strike that neville stops with his hand) he hardly makes those runs anymore.

Lucas played really well on satdy.... worse?? must have been watching a different game, still i dont rate the lad either so.... Insua does get in some good crosses also but he still needs to learn his position yet I feel.

He was absolutely dreadful until Cristmas and a lot better since then.
Mainly because he's played in a more attacking role.
And with a partner up front.
He's not good enough to play as a lone striker or at RW.
He should play up front with Aquilani behind him against Arsenal

This is true- sometimes Dirk has a sublime touch, and has some real subtlety to his play when on song. This is clearly not always the case, but it is in the locker.

anyone is capable of trapping the ball first time once in a while, the thing is kuyt doesn't consistantly get the ball under control with a single touch, those that think he does then more power to you.

Look at our Brazilians ... at our Dutchies ... At our Argentinians ... We seem to have this odd ability to find decent/good players who don't fit into the 'footy style' you tend to see from the country.
