Mane, Salah, Firmino, Coutinho, and Lallana in the starting line-up and still win? If you think we can line up all 5 players then name your formation and who the other 5 players would be.

I was actually going to do a thread on something like this.

In our favoured 4-3-3, I don't see Coutinho and Lallana starting togethor very often. It'll be one or the other most times.

Agreed, and I don't have a problem with that provided we keep winning. Coutinho may well be gone in the summer anyway.

Can we though? These are great attacking players, but inclusion of all them could further expose our defensive frailties, don't you think?

Well, I was answering Ryan's point about it being unlikely that Coutinho and Lallana will start games together, but in answer to your question: IMO possibly but not necessarily. Klopp and his coaching team have added a real work ethic to the skill which Lallana has always had, Firmino works like fury as the first line of our high press and, if all those guys were playing and really clicking together, opposing teams would have a job finding the time or energy to get back at us with their own attack. I'd be happier if we improved our defence at the same time, but it needs improving anyway regardless of whom we pick further forward.

As Ryan and JJ said, one of them will make way, because Coutinho and Lallana are vying for the midfield spot, seeing as the front three rightfully picks itself. Both of them in midfield leaves us too lightweight.

Of course, Klopp will rotate, so Coutinho can play left of the front three, with one of Firmino, Mane or Salah dropping to the bench and Lallana being one of the midfield three.

As it stands, rotation isn't hurting us, so I can't see why they all won't have ample playing time. It's the fringe players like Solanke, Woodburn, Sturridge and Grujic I'm a bit concerned about.

Starting all of them with our already frail defence would be suicide. I can see them all being on the pitch when chasing a game but not starting.

It could work if we had someone better than hendo sitting. I reckon with Keita Klopp will be thinking about that. This players are defensively mindful enough to manage that

Keita isn't a DM, he's not even a Kante. He's a box to box CM with real defensive tenancies.

I'm not worried about Sturridge or Woodburn because one won't be here next season and the other has time aplenty on his side

Solanke is probably happy enough for now with his situation but I'd like to see Grujic getting more then 30 secs at the end of a match

I think its dead easy after yesterday...

Mignolet
Can Henderson Wijnaldum
Oxlade-Chamberlain Coutinho Lallana Milner
Salah Firmino Mane

We come not to defend

Heh. I wouldn't be horrified to see that.
Actually I was a little surprised that it was Wijnaldum rather than Hendo or Milner that dropped into the back 3.

Him and TAA both made brilliant last ditch tackles too on players they didn't let slip away from them, that they marked and followed tightly.

Amazing that two midfielders can do it but our actual defenders can't.

City actually play this way, no? De Bruyne = Coutinho, Silva = Lallana plus a DM and a front 3 (AND a pair of attacking fullbacks). I don’t see why not. It’s not like City are brilliant defensively.

Klopp is taking massive risks at the moment especially with that last game against Brighton but it was necessary. If we come to face teams with better finishers or teams with more hardened midfielders then we would have lost that game yesterday. There is absolutely no way you could play Coutinho with Lallana, then have the regular front men. We would be overrun in midfield given the non defensive minded/aware midfielders we have at our disposal. Think it would be disaster.

If we had someone like a young Mascherano screening the midfield, and someone like the good version of Reina...it's possible.

Do City have a young Mascherano or a Beckenbauer and Nesta in defense? No, they keep winning with 5 attacking midfielders/strikers, a DM and a relatively dodgy back 4 – because their attack is so good that other teams can't afford to test them. I think we could do it too if our ATTACK was more efficient – earlier in the season it wasn't, maybe now it is.

I think we take more risks and put more effort to create as many chances as they do.....in terms of skill/talent they are ahead man for man. The situation is not comparable at all. The question indirectly here was that, is it possible for us to take a bit more risk up front and be even more threatening without conceding any more goals than we already do. Even with Beckenbauer in there we will concede more goals than the teams we are competing with, if we play the way we do. To make being a more attack minded team a viable strategy we need the fabled sweeper keeper, and a top quality Dm (if not as a starter at least as an option because not all games are going to be played at 1000 mph for all 90 minutes)....it's what I meant to say.
