It neatly explains why Wenger was forced to sell Henry to Chelsea for £50m, and Vieira to Real for £30m, instead of waiting a few years and getting about half that
Oh, wait no! It totally debunks your argument for the bollocks it is.
It's not an argument. It's a Premier League rule.
Oh come on, Ross.
Rules are rules but you know as well as I do that if a manager has the full respect of his board, then he's likely to have a say in such matters.
A say, but no power.
Fergie would have always been considered to have his way at United. Does anyone really believe he decided to lose Tevez and sell Ronaldo and replace them with Owen and Valencia ?
Those are very selective (and extreme in the case of the £80m Ronaldo) examples. He obviously had a lot more say prior to the Glazers taking full control.
That's beside the point though really. Of course the final say goes to the owners, but there are many managers in the Premiership who play an integral part in deciding which players go in and out of their clubs. Usually because they have the faith of their employers, who understand that they're the best placed to make those decisions. That is, after all, why they employ them.

I don't think it should be solely the managers role to buy and sell players. Managers make far too many mistakes. We're in this situation now because of a string of mistakes.
We're a poorly run football club, and until we change the structure of it we will continue to be.
