Ings

Aye, he looked pretty sharp.

Took his goal well and I liked how he wasn't afraid to dish out some of the same stuff he was on the receiving end of.

I think between him and Benteke and hopefully Sturridge, we'll be fine up top. It's the supporting acts behind them that I'm not so confident of.

I like him a lot.

Not only is his movement good, he has a very nice first touch. He could be a very good third striker for us long term.

I'll just repost what I said in the 'Norwich' thread :

I like Ings. I know many didn't / don't. He gives 100%, he has no little skill, tons of energy/determination and he knows where the goal is, he's also our only goal poacher so in games where we dominate (ha !) he would be a good player to have in and around the box.

Deserves to start ahead of sturridge. Too much pressure is on danny. Ings should be used to get benteke to adapt to playing with another striker, and bring stir ridge on eventually

Said all summer he would be a star, not useful of handy. A star and he looks like it more and more with every passing week.

I said when we signed him that he mosts reminds me of a potential Aldridge in style.

He made me think of that again today.

No idea why Rodgers persisted in 4-3-3 when any 2 of Benteke, Sturridge and Ings could have helped us.

Yep, I really like Ings. He said from day one that he'd keep his head down and wait for his chances. Great attitude, great willingness to put himself about and stand up for himself. Great goal.

I was one of the people a little underwhelmed by the signing if im honest, but the proof of the pudding was yesterday when the commentators announced Benteke was injured and for once we werent bringing on a "trier" with no goal threat (Borini) or rejigging the formation to accomodate another attacking midfielder, but actually bringing on someone who can hit the net.... which he did inside of 2mins. The added bonus was someone showing a bit of fucking spark to get into peoples faces.... good man Danny

He'll do okay, but we will be wanting better. I predicted about 7 goals for him this season. He's obviously an upgrade on Borini, but that's not saying much. Encouraging signs against Norwich, but I'm not spunking my load after one half of footy.

I think he's good for back up. What you don't want as 3rd/4th choice is someone who is sulking about not playing. He's got the perfect attitude.

He fit our play much better than Benteke but everyone know who will start. As long as Benteke and Sturridge is fit then they will start no matter how good Ings play. It must be frustrating knowing that.

If Lallana stays fit he and Ings would be the first 2 names on my team sheet every week. They are both talented footballers but, as important, they both "give a fuck".

He is well aware that he isn't an automatic starter here. He even requested a high shirt number so he could work hard and work his way down. He vowed to keep his head down and take his chances when they come. He's got a great attitude. Let's not use a positive game from Ings as simply another stick to beat Rodgers with. It isn't really needed here.

Aldo:

The biggest plus was the performance of Danny Ings.

Liverpool’s goalscorer played like a 1980s throwback, running, chasing, harrying and closing down Norwich defenders throughout. He reminded me of Rushie and myself in the 1980s, refusing to give defenders a minute’s peace.

He showed a wonderful attitude which was both refreshing and infectious. He came on at half-time and brought the crowd to life and lifted the players around him, too. And he’s got quality too. His movement was excellent, he took his goal very well and did everything that could have been asked of him.

Yep, he's a live wire off the bench.

Edit : typo

Regardless of where upfield they play, the club's always benefitted from having a player who buzzes about non-stop from space to space. I think Ings is in that great tradition of Brian Hall, Craig Johnston and Ray Houghton. I always wanted us to get him because he's clever as well as industrious, and eager to learn.

Yeah that's fair enough.

It's just ideal that's all, you want someone who's hungry to succeed and who can provide that spark through sheer enthusiasm, not that he doesn't have quality, but you get the drift. If you look at players like Kuyt or Naysmith for Everton, he's got that same sort of attitude.

The issue I have/had with him was players of his standing and quality being brought in to try and improve the first team. And if they weren't brought in to improve the first team, rather to bulk out the squad, then why not concentrate on improving the first team first? Why spend so much time and money fleshing out the squad when the first team needs quality?

They were my issues, but it's a moot point really as I don't think we've done either of those things so I'm rambling here.

We have improved the first team (though you'd never know it with the way we're playing) and as long as players like Ings are kept out of the team by better players and we don't have to rely on them then I'll be content. If he's happy to be our Naismith/Kuyt kinda player then I'm all for it. But I'm also for genuine quality in the first team - something we don't have enough of.

Did we not try to do that though? We spent £60m on Benteke and Firmino, argue what you want about whether they've made an instant impact, but Ings looks a decent deal for back up. At the weekend Sturridge was just returning from injury while Benteke went off injured. If we hadn't bought Ings, what would we have had? It worked.

Yeah that's what I'm saying in my gargled post ... I mainly had a problem when I thought we might be signing Ings as a starter. If he's restricted to coming off the bench and making an impact that way, then I'll be happy.

It's when we end up looking to him as an answer for the first team that I'd be getting worried. It would mean the players we spunked 60m on wouldn't be performing. And I don't think Ings up top would see us get where we hope to be.

You can last 45 minutes?
