Thanx Binny. Just read that article and its good to see that the players is intent on moving to Anfield.

Have we not closed this yet? Someone needs to teach Ayre the art of JGID - Just Get It Done.

My mate in Spain on Aspas: "decent 10, that's all ... not constant"

I'm alright with that, it's difficult to be consistent in the 10 role.

And if he's ever going to find consistency, I'd bet on it being in the next three years

Here's hoping! ... he keeps on going about some Torres (forget the 1st name) in the Atleti youth system. If there is an 'affordable' youth system we should plunder - it's their's!

Same source says annual salary is €1.5m - around €30k/wk.

Liverpool has reached an agreement in principle to take Iago Aspas from Celta to Anfield. The Vigo-based outfit is set to receive €8.5-9.5 million for the youngster, depending on add-ons, while the player himself will pocket a €1.5-million-a-year salary, according to reports from 'Cadena Cope'.

Aspas is all set to join the sizeable Spanish armada currently plying its trade in the Premier League and will be travelling to Merseyside over the next few hours in order to put pen to paper.

Celta had long been bracing itself for life without its prized asset, with Liverpool having beaten off competition from several 'La Liga' sides and clubs all over Europe in order to secure the highly rated forward.

Iago Aspas chose Liverpool over offers from Italy, Portugal and other countries, the Celta Vigo forward was quoted as saying on Saturday amid reports of his four-year deal with the English Premier League side.

"When I heard of Liverpool's interest I did not hesitate even for a minute," the 25-year-old was quoted as saying in Marca sports daily.

"It is one of the biggest clubs in the world and although I also had offers from Italy and Portugal and other countries I decided that my future was in English football."

Celta and Liverpool are putting the final touches to a deal that will see Aspas join the Premier League team for a fee of 8.5 million euros ($11.2 million) plus bonuses, Marca reported.

Aspas would earn 1.5 million euros a season, up from the 600,000 euros he was paid at Celta, the paper added.

"I am very calm but at the same time very excited because I am making a very significant step forward in my sporting career," he said.

Aspas helped set up the winner as Celta survived relegation on the final day of the season last weekend with a 1-0 home victory over Espanyol.

Born in Vigo, he is an idol to Celta fans, having come up through the youth ranks.

He is left-footed, fast and direct and can play through the middle, in a deeper role, or down the flank.

He was Celta's top scorer with 12 goals in La Liga this season, his first in the top-flight.

Glad to see we're being sensible with wages. Even in a worse case scenario he's not going to be much worse than Downing, who we offered £80,000 a week just because he's played his trade in Engand for a while and had a decent season.

Where will he play for us?

Sturridge, coutinho , Gerrard , aspas and a Suarez replacement presumably ?

He will most likely play on the right wing, being a left-footer who likes to cut inside. The question now is, do we keep Downing and his 80 000 per week salary? I expect Aspas to be at least as good as Downing was last season, but he will cost 4 times less in salary...

So its actually a case of 80k to bench warm or 40k to play elsewhere for downing?

I think he would not bench warm, but he won't be an automatic starter next season either, that's for sure. Can we afford a squad player at 80K/week? I doubt it. Better sell him and use that money for sexy new signings.

Amen to that.

Reina backs Aspas signing

Pepe Reina has backed Iago Aspas to become a success at Liverpool if he completes a move from Celta Vigo.

Aspas, 25, is reportedly on the verge of a £7.7 million move to Anfield where he will sign a four-year contract. Able to play as a main forward, second striker, or out wide, Aspas broke into the first team in 2008 after emerging from the club’s academy.

The player appeared to confirm the move, and is quoted by Spanish newspaper Marca as saying: “When I heard of Liverpool’s interest I did not hesitate even for a minute. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world and although I also had offers from Italy and Portugal and other countries I decided that my future was in English football.

“I am very calm but at the same time very excited because I am making a very significant step forward in my sporting career.”

And Reina is impressed by Liverpool’s latest potential acquisition, saying of his fellow Spaniard: “I haven’t played with him or against him. He is much younger than me and during my time in England is when he came through the different divisions at Celta.

“I know as much as I have seen on TV and I think he is a great player and could be a great addition.

“I’ve been asking around and everyone talks well about him so hopefully he will be an asset for us and will be very helpful for the team.”

Meanwhile, Reina has also moved to dismiss reports that he could leave Liverpool this summer, saying he cannot control speculation and insisting he is happy at the club.

“It has never been a distraction for me,” he said. “My mind is pretty much in Liverpool as a person. I know the rumours and the talks in the press is something you cannot control.

“To come away with Spain somehow is good because it keeps your mind a little busier and focus on the national team right now. I can guarantee you my future is in Liverpool right now.”

Pepe really needs to stop talking about other players changing clubs
