Wizz,

Of all the names that you mention, the only two that I'd put above Stevie are Zidane and Messi. The others, though greats, have not been as good, as consistently good, week in and week out over their entire careers, and as inflential to their teams as he has. In my opinion.

You ask how good could he have been, surrounded by better players... Isn't that just it? He led a team with Milan Baros, Djimi Traore, etc... to the fucking European Cup. He's been almost all we've had for long periods of his career with us. He's been this great with so of the worst players we've seen at Anfield for decades.

Would Kaka or Ronaldhino have turned Istanbul the way he did? Or even Cardiff, for that matter? I don't think so.

Roy Keane was.

OMG.

To say that without your tongue firmly wedged in your cheek makes it even more *OMG*.

Pat you're a massive plonker at times.

Lol@ "at times" !

There was an "All Time Premiership XI" thread, a few weeks ago, and I recall Ryan questioning Oncy having Gerrard in there, ahead of Keane.

I don't think the matter was ever thrashed out.

Gerrards fucking amazing.......I think the whole will he wont he to Chelsea let a sour taste in some peoples mouths. One of my scum supporting mates always reckoned (havent spoken to him in a while....he lives in the states now) that there are a lot of Liverpool fans who don't give Gerrard as much credit as he deserves and give Carra more than he deserves......I always told him to shut his dirty scum mouth 8)

Why the fuck is Roy Keane in this thread?
[/quote]

Because DB has posted. Keep up SG!

Despite their talent, and potential of the new signings, we all know UNFORTUNATELY that the success of our season depends on Steevie Gerrard, as we try to claw back into the CL.

It's a worry we still don't have a midfield like Alonso, Gerrard, Masher - but it's reassuring the resources are likely there to buy if needed.

Sorry to harp on, but I don't get why we don't have more brilliance in the middle of the park. Is it that old CL matter?

So if we make the CL, we can sign a ton of talent? is that how it works?

Yours concerned.

PS yeah love the player, maybe not the man!

Nah then there will be loads of internet warriors wielding the "He won't come to cold and rainy Liverpool....he would prefer to go to London or Spain. " meme

Great to have our captain and best player back and (despite what the doom mongers have been telling us all summer) he seems to have retained his pace

Yeah he burst past a Wolves player late on as if he wasn't there. Still has that acceleration over 5-10 yards which has served him so well in his career.

Be very interesting to see if Gerrard starts in the Derby.

I said in the wolves thoughts thread, Carroll playing so deep will be perfect for Stevie, in just a few minutes the space he opened by pulling defenders away was torn into by Gerrard, then two minutes later the exact same thing happened again.

I spent all game wondering why Carroll was behind Suarez when I think it should be the other way round, then when Stevie came on & Carroll stayed deep, it just worked.

Gerrard, Carroll, Suarez.

All in the same team.

All in a row in effect, interchanging & bombing at defenders, passing them & each other at will.

Mouthwatering.

I've said recently carroll needs to come from deep. He can pass, he has pace, power and his touch is improving.

If the 3 can link up nicely it will be silky with power and passion
