How much do you think Sterling is worth in todays market?

The thought occurred to me that young Sterling is hot property at the moment. He's getting a lot of press with his good start to the season and the media seemed to have taken to him in a big way. Young, English and good. I didn't watch the England game the other day but most thought he was the best thing about it.

So then with that in mind. How much do you think he is worth? Not that I'd want to sell him I just wondered. Also would he be the most valuable player at the club right now? If not who is?

hmm it's hard to put a price on him ...if Shaw cost 30m then he had to be at least 50m right now ! so imagine what he could reach .

as for others , if mario hits form his price with rocket to 30-40m quickly . Sturridge has another season like last and he'll have to be worth 40m + although he hasn't got a fancy hispanic name which adds a bit more on .

I think 1 gets you 1.18 euro these days, or there about. Not sure what the rate is against the other major currencies though.

It feels like not too long ago it used to be a lot easier to value a player's worth on the transfer market as there was a relatively easy scale you could use - the top end of 30M generally being reserved for the Zidanes and Ronaldos of this world.

Now it's just chaos. There is no consistency, which makes it very hard to answer questions like this in isolation of the buying / selling team.

I think I said in a previous thread that if he continues in this vein and someone desperately wants him next summer, it'll take a world record transfer fee to make it happen.

Image is more and more important. If you've got a really good player, that's going to bring in a big fee. But if you've got a really good player with the right look, the right demographic and ethnic profile and the right personality, then you can add millions and millions on to a fee these days. Sterling's a hugely promising young player who's going to be phenomenally marketable.

Hes the most valuable player we've got for sure.

He will be a 50m plus player by the end of the season

I don't think you can put a figure to as there are too many variables not least the craziness of the market.

It depends on how much the club wants / needs to sell him and how much the buying club wants / need to buy him. We don't need the money and I'm assuming the manager and owners don't want to sell him so our position is strengthened if a bid comes in. I also get no sense that the player himself is eager to move so that also helps us.

In the specific case of Sterling, given his age what is being marketed? Is it the value of the player today or his potential?

People often say football is a business and I insist it isn't because you wouldn't run any normal business along the lines football clubs are run. However where transfers are concernd it really does boil down to the simple economics of supply and demand. We have something and if you want it we're going to have to agree a price.

For me the best way to gauge a player's worth is to look at who is going for what in the market of the day. On that basis this window just gone we were looking at a +£40m player and I expect by the next summer window we could be talking new world record because many of the players in that recent echelon have now gone beyond the point of their maximum value. Ronaldo isn't going to set a world record fee and nor probably will Bale go for that sort of money again. It's going to take a player of Sterling's ability, potential and marketability to set a new world record fee.

Yep this is more the point I was aiming for. In todays crazy market and given all the hype around him his value is going to go through the roof. I just thought it was worth pointing this out - Interesting he is now probably the most valuable player at the club as well. Some could argue Sturridge is but at this moment I probably would say Sterling. What's crazy about that is there a few players in the squad (including Sturridge) that I feel are better than Sterling.

His value to the market is probably north of £30million, he value to us is much higher, probably north of £50million. Thankfully we won't sell him, however if we're not in the champions league the season after next, he might want to go.

I wonder what his contract is at the mo. Actually does anyone know a website (not google) that has player info on contracts and salary etc? Cheers in advance

At least £40 million.
He needs to play regularly and contribute consistently to reach Suarez/Bale status.

Anywhere from 30M to 50M.

We've seen players who are as talented go at a pretty wide range lately, there is some disparity there. Lets not forget he's only really been productive for just under a season no

He's on a meteoric rise at the moment though, and if he continues to develop at this rate, in a season's time he'll be as sought after as any young player ever.
