Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed his interest in PSV Eindhoven star Ola Toivonen.

As revealed by skysports.com earlier this week Liverpool were weighing up a move for the Swedish international as Hodgson looks to bring in a new forward. Toivonen is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Europe after impressing for club and country over the last year.

Tottenham are also interested in the 24-year-old hot-shot, with PSV facing a fight to keep hold of the Scandinavian.

Hodgson has confirmed he is keeping tabs on Toivonen and that he is a big admirer of the Swede.

"We have discussed his name, that's true," said Hodgson. "Like all teams, we are looking at a lot of players. I do know the player and think he is a good player, but can't give you any further indication. That doesn't mean we are going to rush in and buy him tomorrow. But he is a player who has come up, we have watched him and we know about him."

Liverpool are weighing up a £5million move for PSV Eindhoven's Ola Toivonen.
Manager Roy Hodgson watched the Swede, 24, in action against Scotland last week and was impressed as he scored in their 3-0 win.

Toivonen, who is 6ft 4in, is looked after by one of Hodgson's former players Martin Dahlin.
He can play either as an attacking midfielder or a striker and has an impressive goalscoring record at PSV.

Looks a big strong lad with really shit hair.

I really know nothing of him bar youtube clips, and I'm immediately distrustful of any striker smashing in goals in Holland.

Still, he looks quite skilful and mobile for a big bastard.

give it two years and liverpool entire first team will be blond with blue eyes

Lead by that crazy looking Skrtel

Very good. That means this one is an ACTAUL lead rather than the fucking Remys and Wolfdicks and what not that agents would have us believe we are linked with.

He's cup tied now, so I'm wondering if he's still an option.

I'm unsure of this - there is no mention of the Europa League Play-offs in the regulations. He MAY still be eligible. If PSV get knocked out (currently losing 0-1) and the Play-offs is classified the same as the qualifiers.

As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season.

Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage, provided that his former club did not qualify for the group phase of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League; moreover, as from the start of the round of 32 (round of 16 for UEFA Champions League), a player can be registered in accordance with paragraphs 18.17 to 18.20 below.

For the avoidance of doubt, a substitute player who has not been fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League in the course of the same season, provided that he is registered
