Reported in the media this morning a deal has been agreed £100000 pw plus addons

Club to confirm

Excellent news if true..

I like Henderson a lot but we need the Yaya (good version) to his Fernandinho.

I was more hopeful earlier in the season that if Can progresses quickly enough he could be that player but he needs time.

We also need someone who can play instead of him if he's playing gash, as he was at the beginning of the season. We're quite thin on the ground in terms of central midfielders, both in terms of numbers and experience. Which is why, joking apart, I'd be very happy with the signing of Milner.

Milner is a very good player and I advocated signing him a couple windows ago but now I'm not so sure.

He plays a lot at City and if he leaves, it'll probably be because he doesn't want to feel like the stand in, someone who just fills a gap where he's needed. He'll want to go somewhere where he knows that when fit and playing well he'll be starting in a set position. Would you want to give him those guarantees to come to us?

Well I would have thought he'd be smart enough to know that the only way he's going to get a guaranteed start is by dropping down to teams without the real ambition to get into the top four. I also think Milner wants to play centre mid more than he wants to be a guaranteed starter and I don't think we'd play him anywhere else. I'd also be happier at the current time with him in the side rather than Joe Allen.

So would I (though I like Allen and am not giving up on him) but I disagree with the "not playing him anywhere else" bit. Brendan likes his players to fill different roles at different times and I can well see Milner getting played wide in some games.

I'm pleased that he's hopefully signed up for 5yrs. But I can't help feeling a bit meh about him as a player 🙁

That's a lot of money for a Henderson type of player..

It does seem excessive alright but given he could walk in 12 months for nothing then I can understand it. With Gerrard leaving this summer, along with Johnson and most likely Toure we will be seriously short of senior players in the first team. We need players in the key 25 - 29 age group to build the team around

For a Henderson type player? He's our captain, and has been one of our best players this season (hardly a tall order mind).

Henderson has been our best outlet all season..

the most consistant too..

Deserves his contract... he is only going to get better

Indeed. Perhaps this is where the talk of him going abroad has come from though - the potential lack of options in England.

Milner and Henderson in midfield... good or a bit too samey?

I like how people have gone from moaning that the deal wasn't finalised earlier to now moaning about it getting done.

This is good news

Dont think anybody is disappointed its done, just seems like a lot of money. Its not Falcao level of insanity but still

Can we do an Everton and hold a raffle to win the pen Henderson used to sign the contract?

Cannot wait for the pic of Henderson grinning gormlessly as he holds a pen over a blank page of paper just like Sturridge did for a club photo op.

I think he's got some way to go, but 6 goals and 8 assists (just in the league) in a team this short on attacking options, is far from meh.

What do you mean for a Henderson type player?

Is he not famous enough?

When we the focal point of our midfield he's great, chips know with goals and makes chances for those around him.

If he has to play off the ball he's not as good.

I forgot to quote HC's original post which said "Henderson type player", but the point you've made is exactly the point I was making in response to HC and generally the people saying it's too much for Henderson. It's absurd that people think it's too much for him, signing him up for five years at that price is absolutely superb business.

I would take that. Milner can play anywhere. One of the smartest, hardest working players in the game. He could play the current Lucas role quite effectively, or step forward into Allen's or Coutinho's (with more grit, less flare).

I'd have no problem signing Milner.
Despite City spending a billion quid on midfielders he's used in almost every game in some shape or form.
He works his bollix off too and is exceptionally clever in and around the box.
Totally unselfish and a top pro.
We have and will do far worse than signing him.

Agree with all of that, which is why I can't believe it'll happen unfortunately. They'll find a way to keep him IMO.
