Gotze

Kicker are claiming he was on the verge of agreeing a move to us. £19 million, with him earning £175k a week. Then he switched agents. Bayern I think would like the money rather than the player. Rummenigge's quotes today about Mario needing to consider how much playing time he wants could be interpreted as them urging him to leave. That's how some are spinning it.

Basically it'll be a status quo if he stays, he won't be a first choice next season even if fit. His best chance would be for injuries to Robben and Ribery while he actually stays fit at the same time, which has irked most Bayern fans. A bit similar to Sturridge for us, all the talent in the world, but can't keep him off the physio table.

Personally, I think he wants to go back to Dortmund, and he's hoping a good Euros will either get them interested, or at worst another CL team interested. His place in the Germany squad is secure so he doesn't feel the need to join us at this time and is prepared to play a waiting game for another move.

Gotze is turning into the new Bogarde. Would rather sit on the bench and get a big payday next season rather than playing first team football. I'm going off him more and more.

Yeah, it certainly seems like he wants the chance to have a good tournament for Geramny and see if that increases his options. I suppose Dortmund could still go in for him but I would have thought if they were going to do so they would have started negotiations around the time they were selling Hummels to Bayern.

Kicker are a reliable source in Germany so I'd tend to believe this story.

Not sure what I think about Gotze as a player, really.

The stories were that Gotze fired his agent precisely because the agent was pushing him to go back to Dortmund. So I don't think that's what he wants at all.

I'd trust Klopp to have enough admiration in the game and respect to bring in someone of real quality who wants to be here. Not someone who sees us as an option but potentially not the most attractive one. This semi-saga makes me think that he's exactly the sort of player that Klopp doesn't want.

And I know it's only May, I'm not being impatient, I'm talking respect to the sounds coming from his camp. Maybe it's all just bollocks and he does want to play for us, who knows? I'm non-plussed either way tbh.

I think it's quite possible Gotze will end up at United or some other English team. Bayern's latest statement is a clear "if you think you are going to have more than a bit-part role here, think again" message. So I think he will be off eventually, but not to us. This makes the EL final loss sting even more (because most likely us not being in Europe was the deal-breaker), but on the other hand I don't like players with this attitude. If playing for Liverpool is not big enough draw for you, even at a low point of your career, go somewhere else and see how that works out.

I presume Bayern want to sell Gotze this season so he can't leave for free next season? His agent wanted him to go to Dortmund so he sacked him off so it's now just wait and see whether Bayern want him or not?

Our name only goes so far. I think the bigger issue is that even without CL football, we want to be able to persuade players that the potential is there, as well as the genuine ambition. If that still isn't enough, then fine, see you later.

Did anyone who joined City when they weren't in the CL not think that it was only a matter of time? Because it was quite obvious they were on the up.

I'm not buying that, don't be blinkered. It is more plausible that his agent tried to force the move to us, said he'd get no better offer. So he sacked him off in the hope of a good Euros.

Oh, I'm under no illusions he wants to come with us.

When I said, wait and see, I meant Gotze will wait and see.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like what an agent would say.

Just some tweets from a Bild journalist.

It's frustrating because a move to LFC would be perfect for all parties, but Goetze is probably waiting and hoping a team like Juve come in for him.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like what an agent would say.

If we offered £175k and first team football - it could well have been.

What do you expect agents to say? Do you expect them to sit around eating Caviar and telling their clients they can all play for Barcelona or Man City? They aren't all Aidy Ward son.

This tale has all the signs of a Spurs/Chelsea signing so far

Yes, well I think I'll leave you to carry on imagining what an agent might say to a client, in a situation that may or may not be real, using figures and quotes that you have made up to help support your fictional point.

It's most insightful. Son.

You haven't changed a bit, always the cynical one.

If we dont sign him it will be a bullet well dodged, the over hyped, self indulgent, injury prone twat

If we do sign him, he is exactly what we need & Jurgen will rebuild his career turning him into (another) our Cantona

Oh, I dunno. There's loads of players we "nearly" signed, or wanted to, that everyone is very honest about, and regrets hugely.

I already knew that. Why do you think I was so sure that he would join us? I have a journo friend that work at Kicker so I get some inside info sometimes. The move isn't dead. Not even close to be dead. His agent wanted him to move to Dortmund on a free next summer. I don't have a clue about why but he would probably earn more money that way.

The problem is that Ancelotti want to keep him but Bayern want to sell him. Will be interesting to see who wins. Ancelotti or the board.

Fair play to Goetze if he did indeed sack his agent because the guy was serving his own interests and not doing what Goetze wanted. Not enough players do that.

Arn is an ITK!

Are you on Twitter, Arn?

I'm not in the know. I just get told info sometimes when he thinks that I'm interested. Yes I do use twitter sometimes but I will never tell you what name I have there.

If he told me things all the time then his bosses wouldn't be that happy.
