[article]Liverpool look like they’re going to make one of the signings of the summer in Mario Gotze, the Express report.

The player is out of favour at Bayern Munich and wants to leave, already privately indicating that he fancies a move to Anfield to work with his former boss Jurgen Klopp.

Gotze was the golden boy of Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund team before moving to Bayern in 2013, agreeing to make the switch before the two met in that year’s Champions League final, which Bayern won.

But the move has been a relative disaster. Gotze has struggled to find form, fitness and the favour of Pep Guardiola with the Spaniard only giving him one Bundesliga start since October.

It’s been quite a fall for a player who scored the winning goal in a World Cup final less than two years ago. At the age 24, he has plenty of time on his side to get back to the level he was at.

With only one year left on his Bayern contract Liverpool will be able to convince the Germans to sell Gotze from between €15 million and €20 million unless incoming Carlo Ancelotti convinces him to stay.

Hmm .... We have Coutinho, Lallana, and possibly Firmino in that pisition. And yet we don't have a reliable frontline striker. I'll be more comfortable with his coming if we're also looking for at least one genuine goalscorer.

I think he's been ok since he stopped making those instructions on how you fit transit vans up your arse.

I would love to see that. He does seem to play a lot better there than the front 3.

I've been saying since he arrived that I fully expect FSG to give him a decent amount to spend this summer, and that at least one, maybe two, signings would be around the 20-30m mark, "STATEMENT" signings.

Gotze was a player who seemed an obvious link, given his current status and history with Klopp. I've only ever seen him play a couple of times, so I don't really have much of an opinion, but one issue I do have is that this team needs a lot more pace in attack from the wide positions, and also needs one more proper striker, given Benteke's travails.

Neither of these things are Gotze, who plays in a similar position and role to Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino. Do we need another attacking midfielder? Yeah, great if he's an upgrade on what we have, but it doesn't seem like a huge priority.

Gotze has got decent pace though and can play anywhere across the attack. Signing him could spell the end of Lallanas Liverpool career.
He was instrumental to Klopps Dortmund side and if he's available for 20 mill its a no brainer. Still only 23 years aswell.

If we sign him, we'll have 3 out and out number 10's. Granted they 'can' play in other positions, but would Countinho and Firmino be best utilised out wide in a 3 if he gets the 10?

*edit* And I'm sure Lallana sees himself as a 10 too

Our team lacks genuine pace in attack, and playing in wide attacking positions (or "winger" as it used to be known) ideally requires the acceleration to get away from defenders, which is why Lallana, Coutinho and Firmino aren't really ideal, as none of them has any genuine pace. Maybe they could play one side, but the other AM needs some speed. Otherwise you get caught up in intricate, slow, "pass/pass/flick/dragback/ lose the ball" without the other option: "blaze past full-back and cross/ shoot"

He's brought in that Grujic for pace aswell I think. Whether he sees him as part of the regular starting 11 I dont know. Maybe Markovic to come back too.
We'll end up with an embarrassment of riches for AM's by the looks of it.

Goetze doesn't look quick enough to stretch defences out wide.
