I can see the Malmaison from where I am right now (In work)

I think I probably know where he hurt himself also. Fucking idiot.

Funny though.

That's a pretty big leap, all I was saying is that at the time he was a coup, they were a team outside of the champions league signing one of the better wingers on the planet, albeit for a massive price. Obviously it all went south because Di Maria gave up after 2 months, but you can't apply retrospect to change the sentiment at the time.

Can you not see the sentiment is fucking pointless and the only thing that matters is whether the player is good for you.

Whether its a coup is only relevant to morons who want go argue whether club x is bigger than club y. Which is childish and dumb.

And a Mendes client who was dumped by his club ending up at United isn't much of a coup. Like Falcao.

Getting excited about bad flashy signings is like getting excited about how bright and shiny the asteroid on its way to hit earth is.

It looks like Klopp is building towards the same system he had at Dortmund.
Gotze developed into a World class player in that system, working with Klopp.

I dont think it will be a problem for him adopting to the Premier league, and Klopp will know how to uitilize him and get the best out of him as a player. Thats the exciting link.
We're not buying him to play him as a wing back or out of position.
He's also only 23 years old.

20 mill is a great fee aswell. He's worth much much more and we'll get that back if it for some reason doesnt work out.

As I said, exciting.

We're never going to fix everything in one window. If we can get this quality at a decent price this time round, we should.

What's even sadder is that I felt jealous and annoyed, when in reality, my younger brother (and his idiot mate, the Sperm), were already 7-10 years older than most of them anyway, and my role in life at 40+ years old was very obviously getting soaked while getting my shopping and kids back into the car and going home, as they were all taking the piss from their party flat.

I think I might kill myself.

On the plus side, Dad showed me a place to park for free so I didn't have to pay £10-15 in the Q-Park/ Liverpool One/ Albert Dock. It's just past the Malmaison!

I wasn't here at the time, but given I know this Forum and its contributors better than most, I find that VERY hard to believe.

And rightly so. While there were a fair number talking the signing up, as many of us (including me) knew from the start that a train crash was coming.

You keep dragging this off in a confusing irrelevant direction, Gotze would be a coup because he's a player who has enough talent to be playing at a higher level than us, ie a champions league team, just like Di Maria before him. Now stop calling people morons, dumb and childish and understand that simple point.

Oh and if you don't think Di Maria was a coup for United at the time, well you're just being revisionist, he was sensational before he joined United, and it was only in a Liverpudlians sweetest dreams that he would become so disillusioned so quickly.

does 'the sperm' have kids? he seems to be doing alright.

As if. He's renting a room off my brother. You have no idea how low on the social ladder that puts you when my brother is your landlord.

As for kids, he's only recently regained the use of his left arm, which was entirely inert for a few months, so I think children is a way off just yet. That's not a wanking joke either. His arm stopped working.

Anyway. We digress.

He's got a point only as much as being totally embarrassed about the sort of Liverpool fans who get an internet stiffy about some "well known" player that they can LULZ about on social media, like very single dismal cunt that got excited about Balotelli.

I don't disagree with that part, however it doesn't apply to Gotze as he'd be a coup because he's a very very good footballer.

I bet I was one of the bellends talking him up. I can't remember but I wouldn't be surprised 😳

I'm sure that, if you were, it was more along the lines of "if Rodgers can get through to him", in other words you'll have recognised the risk involved. To me that's quite forgivable. Less so, IMO at any rate, were the cheerleaders who were giving us sceptics all sorts of grief for casting doubt on the deal, although one often got the distinct feeling that they were trying to convince themselves more than anyone.

I can't really comment on that. I don't know enough about Gotze to make any definitive point.

I knew enough about Balotelli to know he would be a disaster, because he's always been an overrated, annoying, mongy, shitcunt fucking hateful twat.

Haha! I would hope I was in the doubter category but knowing my blind adherence to baseless optimism you never know. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. For the record I think Gotze would be a wonderful signing based on nothing but blind optimism 😉

Great thread. Brendan going off on a tangent is the perfect distraction as to whether Gotze is a 'coup' or not.

Oh, can Jono run a script or conduct some ninja tech wizardry to correct all potential spellings of Gotze to how it should be spelled? We are going to have another Frimino, Firmino, Friminho, Friminio situation on our hands. Is spelling it as Gotze correct by the way?

His talent is not in question but I'm not sure if Gotze is the type of player who is going to drag us through games when the chips are down. Will he be another supporting player for us or the one who will single-handedly try to win games for us? I haven't seen enough of him to judge his ability to lead a side in an attacking sense. It's probably difficult to deduce the roles he's played so far in his career. Is it fair to say that at Dortmund he was shit shot but still only a kid and at Bayern he was decent but primarily used as support to other talented superstars?

As for Di Maria, I was raging when United signed him. I presumed he would be excellent for them. Under a different manager he could have flourished there. I'm happy he's fucked off to Paris and out of the way.

The majority of the forum was excited when Balotelli signed. It was largely tongue in cheek though. We knew he was a bit of a buffoon but were happy to risk rolling the dice on him. As DSE said, a dark time for the forum.

P.S. Do you use spelled & spelt?

*Hope I don't get in trouble for creating a possible thread tangent*

I'd be willing to bet if I posted about Di Maria I would have said he's a waste of money , his type of player peaks early etc etc

And everyone would have ignored me.

It's not about the cash though, it's about whether or not he was a much better player than the side he was joining, and he was.

But he wasn't. As we found out quickly.

You thought he was, they might have thought he was.

But you were wrong weren't you ?

60m pounds of wrong.

Its like saying you got a bargain for your house last year, even though it fell down in a breeze.

I'd love for this to be true and to happen, however I reckon Ancelloti will rate him, convince him to stay, otherwise someone like Juventus/Chelsea/United/Arsenal will offer crazy money and he'll go there instead.

Just hard to imagine a player like Gotze picking us

Hindsight's a wonderful thing, but you're fooling no one if you claim that at the time you didn't think Di Maria was too good for that United team.
