Glen Johnson unsure over Liverpool future with new contract talks yet to start

GLEN JOHNSON admits he is in the dark about his Liverpool future.

By Harry Pratt and Steve Millar/Published 13th April 2014

ANFIELD EXIT? Johnson has just one year left with the Reds and is yet to discuss his future [GETTY]
The England defender has just over a year left on his current deal but has yet to be offered an extension by the high-flying Reds.

There has not been any discussions with the club about his future.
Arsenal and Manchester United, along with Spanish giants Real Madrid, are monitoring Johnson’s situation closely amid speculation he could be on his way.
Johnson joined the Reds from Portsmouth in 2009 for £18million.

But the ex-Chelsea and Pompey full-back insists he is keen to stay at Anfield despite the ongoing uncertainty.
Johnson, 29, said: “I haven’t heard anything. So I’ll just have to get through the next few games and see what happens.

“Of course, it’s not nice not knowing what you’re going to be doing in the future.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute here and I’d love to stay longer. But at the moment I don’t know what the club’s plans are.”

It's obvious that he would have been given a new contract if he wasn't on such high wages.

I think there's a slight chance that we might be looking to sell him.

Anything over 10M is a great fee for Glenjo.

I haven't paid much attention to him this season, but Danilo of Porto looked very attractive last summer.

I believe Serge Aurier has been having a good season in Ligue 1. He could be a good long term option as well. Kolo could put a good word in for us.

The risk is not knowing which Johnson we'll get once we extend him. On a good day, arguably the top 3 RBs in the league. On an average day in these 2 seasons, an anonymous RB. If injuries are used as the excuse for his poor form for the best part of a year, then that raises another question about his fitness risks in the seasons ahead.

Only last season did he play more than 30 league games. He's been averaging about 25 league games since joining us. That's 100K (or 120K?) a week for coming to play 65% of the time, and playing crap 20% of that time that he does play (1 season in 5). We either need some assurance that we'll get better attendances and more consistency from him, or we'll have to reduce his pay to match that accordingly.

That article will likely be recycled shite from months ago.

Why would the club be discussing and sorting out contracts at this point in the season?, Rodgers said 3/4 weeks ago in one of his pre match press conferences that all contract talks for everyone including himself will be had at the end of the season.

yeah, sounds like bored journos trying to make mischief. BR's contract is also due to end next year, no?

It will all hinge on whether he is willing to take a wage cut to stay on longer.

He's had a mediocre season and isn't getting any younger so the club would be right to consider their options.

He was our worst player by a mile today, and I don't think I can ever cope with that again.

I've never been so frustrated with his throwins before in my life. There was one incident in the first half where we were about in the attacking third with two open options, and he threw the ball all the way back to Skrtel, and we proceeded to give it away.

Had tons of opportunities with space on the wing, and did absolutely nothing. Even our third goal came off another botched throwin.

Post match though, I offered him to a City supporter I know for 30M 😉

really I thought he was ok, great clearance from the line.
But at least you waited 10 mins to post a predictable post 😉

Johnson was wank.

I don't usually shit on our players, but he really was terrible.

Not enough to judge him overall, but if it wasn't for Phil, I think this would be the most active thread for the next 24hrs.

But we won, so fuck it, he can play shite forever once we win.

I suspect, given his age, that he is looking for one last decent contract, which is fair enough but if we can get a good fee for him at this stage we probably should consider it.

I think Johnson is a very good player, and overall he has proved a good signing for us, but he will be 30 this summer, and if we can afford someone better and younger then it would be a good time to sell.

Mind you, our record of buying full backs over the years has been patchy at best!

Should defo keep unless we can can pull off areleboa/finan type signing as we have more pressing priortises for summer

I thought Skrtel was terrible today. Not sure why people thought he was good.

It felt like after about 60 minutes, Sakho was the one who kept being forced to make the tough passes out of the back, after Skrtel passed it to him in a corner.
